Like it too. I'm glad the Washington Crossing the Delaware reverse quarter will be short-lived. I dont like the design and feel they should have used one of the Leutze paintings

Considering the fact that the Mint (or the Govt rather) has turned the reverse of the quarter into a revolving canvas, it's high time that the obverse get a makeover, imo. I can't think of a better rendering of G.W. than this one and welcome the news. I hope it's executed in the higher relief as shown and not in some watered down flat scale.

LGF’s design, from the beginning, has been considered the best of the submissions by many. It is believed that personal bias lead to JF’s design being chosen.

From other sources I've read, another reason why LGF wasn't given the quarter wasn't necessarily because of personal bias, but because she got the more lucrative medal work.

This is my FAVORITE U.S. coin design. I know.......Walking Liberty.....Standing Liberty .......Mercury .....St Gaudens.........all nice....classics. I get it. This one is my favorite. I have the 1999 gold piece. I can't wait to get this one in silver. I love it!

I don't know why the Mint doesn't do this now. I'll bet it would cause the sales of proof sets and Mint sets to increase dramatically.

Thanks! I did some more digging and there may not be any merit to my previously stated reasoning.

The below linked article, by one of our own members I believe, also indicates that the Secretary of Treasury may have been using large-sized models for the selection process, whereas the CFA had been using models closer to the size of actual quarters, which made a difference in the visual merit of each design.

I always appreciate the knowledge here!

I like the Fraser portrait better than Flanagan's design. To me, it shows more 'character'...Flanagan's being a lifeless rendering. Though I have often stated, I wish they would stop with the dead presidents on coins - totally stop. As to the reverse designs.... just make them art oriented and not commercials. Cheers, RickO
