Coin won’t fit in 2.5 x 2.5 Mylar flip

I called PCGS customer service this morning and got a return call quicker than expected. Problem is the answer I received wasn’t correct. I was told to put the over sized coin in a padded envelope. I explained it was a proof and that would scratch it or damage it in someway. The reply I got was “well that’s a very good question”. I replied thank you but what am I supposed to do? He advised me to submit it in the original plastic case. The submission directions clearly state “do not submit in the plastic capsule”. Anyone know how to submit an oversized coin? Thanks in advance for the replies as I’m sure someone has submitted large coins before.

@HashTag I have sent coins in the capsule before, not a problem.
Pretty much have to do that for First Strike.

I was told by CS to submit coins in the mint capsules to “help avoid damage” to the coin. No third party capsules, that needs the flip.
Was also told only submit in Mylar if they are loose coins not issued in capsule.
I hope that’s right because I have a submission going out tomorrow with 5 coins in capsules along with a bunch still in OGP shipping box for first strikes.

Just curious, where did you find this information on the PCGS website?

Note - Like @Danno44, I have contacted CS on this issue in the past. Was told that Mint capsules were fine, and never had any issues. Notwithstanding, if the submission guidelines have changed, I would like to adapt for future submissions.

I do think they would want to avoid an air-tite over a mint capsule. air-tites are harder to open.

I think this is why the request not to submit in plastic capsules. They don't want submissions full of air-tites showing up. Those can be a pain to open. Original mint packaging is a different story.

As far as I have known, submitting in mint capsules has been acceptable. Have not seen or heard anything to the contrary. Cheers, RickO

FWIW - Found the same 'rule' here, under "Shipping Instructions" near the bottom of the page.

I, personally, do NOT consider your 'inquiry/concern' to be "anal". Quite the contrary, I think it is considerate. You are attempting to follow the 'rules' to facilitate order receipt at PCGS. Two Thumbs Up !!!

Sounds like you have decided upon a course of action. Best of luck with your submission.

Edited To Add:
In the first post, you stated that a PCGS CS rep advised you to submit in "the original plastic case". Based on this direction, and the responses in this thread, I ASSume that this is your plan. IMHO, this is the best way to avoid 'handling/shipping' damage. No reason to remove the coin from its protective case if you do not have to do so.
