My gut reaction was solid 64 rather than 65. It is an exceptional strike however, and the reverse toning is dramatic.
66... looks alot like one I owned, but cleaner.

I inherited a circulated specimen. After seeing your well-toned MS, I now am motivated to look for one that pops similar to yours.
My strategy is about collecting what I intend to keep, not investing in what I plan to sell.

I would go with the 65 grade.... the tarnish looks almost terminal around the perimeter. Cheers, RickO

The TrueView makes the portrait so dark relative to the rest of the coin that I think it has been cleaned and retoned. Such coins sometimes receive straight grades in the MS61-62 range, but are more likely in Genuine/Details holders.

I wouldn't be shocked if this coin didn't straight grade. Columbian half dollars usually have quite consistent obverse and reverse toning. On this coin they look different, with the reverse looking more original. I do wonder if the obverse may have been worked on.
(PS -- nonetheless, I do like the reverse toning, which looks like the Santa Maria weathering a storm)

This is an interesting example and somewhat of a warning about TrueViews.
The coin is unusual in hand. Cleaned wasn’t my first thought-more like polished or altered surfaces. Still I like it and was drawn in to bid (more than what a typical cleaned coin would bring). Plus, the strike is better than many MS coins I've seen and owned. I do wonder what exactly was done to it.

Yeah, the luster on the portrait looked really odd. Not really surprised at the no grade.
It’s too bad that the piece has been cleaned. The strike on the reverse had me thinking that it might be a Proof.
I wonder if whoever sent it in had the same thoughts? The strike is definitely better than many I’ve seen.
This is an interesting example and somewhat of a warning about TrueViews.
what is the "warning" about TV's??? since you offer none I am left to speculate that you believe the image in the OP by PCGS is deceptive. to my way of thinking, the TV is shot of a raw coin with straight on lighting and no sort of manipulation. your slab shot is through plastic and angled due to that, showing distortion, glare and a washed out look.
my initial impression was MS64. neither picture is clear enough or large enough to show me any evidence of cleaning, but I'd imagine in-hand it may be obvious.
"If" that coin was mine, it would be broken out and in my type set in a minute. .... just sayin'
The warning is one I always give: TrueViews are usually “too good” even for problem free coins. For toned coins, the color is often better on the photo than in hand. Also hits and marks tend to be lessened. The market however has spoken and people want these photos, so I follow the market (but remain cautious when buying).
This particular example was posted in two places and virtually no one (only a few people) guessed any sort of details grade.
I already have an UNC Columbian in my type set so for now I’m not planning on cracking this one.
This is why I say that.
TrueViews can be like rose colored glasses. I did a GTG on this one a while back. Maybe they were being nice but not many people guessed 64. It looks much worse in hand.

Not to get too far off track, but sometimes TrueViews look worse than the actual coin, in my experience.

It’s possible (especially with the early ones when the service was just launched) but in my experiences too good outweighs worse by a significant margin. Your experiences may vary.
Many guessed high too, so it was definitely tricky.
