Dansco 8100, all holes filled.
With the Slab now being the way to collect coins, especially coins of value, the old albums just don't seem to get the love they used to. I started my blue Whitman Lincoln folders as a YN. I later upgraded to a brown Dansco folder as they looked much nicer. Then I went with slide trays and 2x2 holders as I was upgrading and had more MS coins in the collection. The 2x2s just didn't look great and I liked the look of coins in the books. I ended up picking up the 8100 Dansco Album about a dozen years ago and put all my Lincolns in the book. I had to pick up the modern proofs and work on some upgrades. The book has been full and up to date for many years except for the 22 plain. A die state variety that had it's own hole... and a hefty price tag. I looked at the offerings over the years, not because I wanted one but because that last empty hole kept bugging me. I needed to find an example that would fit the rest of the album, which for the first two album pages are AU+ coins. The remaining album pages are filled with MS coins.
For the keys and just some tougher ones in general I bought slabbed coins. The question of whether to crack or not was not an issue with me a dozen years ago as I was holding for the long term and I bought brown toned cents for the early years. I still don't mind the fact they are freed and chilling with their buddies in the album. After years of watching the 22 plain cents I learned that most are low grade. Those that are AU and higher were quite expensive and there is always plenty of bidders for them. I wanted one I did not mind cracking from the holder and I was not going to crack a $5k-$10k coin for that hole. I knew I was going to have to compromise on quality or leave the hole empty. I finally found one this year that I think works. It was holdered as XF details, spot removed. Looking at the coin I think it is low AU but the luster is not there like it should be and the recent dig at a surface spot is very small. More importantly I can afford it and I can crack it out without regret. The hole is filled.
The album is full and the appearance and the heft is nice. I enjoy flipping the pages of a matched coin album. I am happy with the end result. Almost makes me want to put together a set of Sac dollars or something else simple.
Here are some quick photos of the album. Please forgive the amateurish point and shoot pics. The three holes at the end of the wheat cents have a proof 55, 56 & 57 to fill it out. I see I need to adjust the 12-D, he somehow got a little out of line.

Looks great, very nice set of Lincolns!
All sets should be in Dansco albums, outstanding set Batman23!
Great set!!!!! Congrats!!!!!
HAPPY COLLECTING
Thanks for the comments. I felt the need to share and show it off and the non coin people around me don't really understand what it takes to put a set together.
I wish I still had my Dansco albums, they are the BEST!
Very impressive! Great looking set!
Lookin' good!
U.S. Type Set
That is a beautiful set and something you can take out and look at and share. If the coins were all graded they would fill over 15 boxes, I believe. Who would ever take those out to enjoy looking at them? I like what you have done. And congratulations on finishing that last hole.
That is a really great set - congratulations on completion. Such a great way to display a fine collection. Cheers, RickO
Gorgeous set, and yes a true labor of love.
I may suggest, for future photos, I’ve found that removing the slides allows the coins to image a bit better. Something to consider if you want to ever reshoot them, or show individual pics of the key dates and highlight coins in the set.
Thank you.
I try not to pull the slides back and forth if I don't need to. I had read years back that moving the slides could cause surface issues on the coins. But you are right that the slides don't make for great photos with the glare.
Congrats on the completion. I finished my set years ago to 2008, with coins after 1939 BU and all coins after 1964 with mint and proof set coins. A lot of my earlier coins are lower grades however from my childhood collection. I like albums-all my sets are in albums, some with crack-out coins.
I always found the concept of "Proof Only Issues" interesting as I understand the logic of including later date "S" mint coins within the set. It took me a while to understand why earlier Proofs were excluded!
Beautiful set. More difficult than many would imagine as yours are so nicely matched.

Beautiful set! It's very satisfying to complete something. I also have a completed set of Lincoln Cents in Dansco albums.
Great collection. Thanks for sharing. I've still got many Dansco Albums, some not out for 10-15 years. I changed my 3rd Buffalo NIckel album to a Littleton album when Dansco entered their troubled phase. Still got my 2nd 7070, my original Buffalo Nickel album from the 50's and 60's, mostly out of change. I believe I placed my Buffalo Nickel's in my first Dansco Album which had slide in coin rows. Dansco's were a way of life for many collectors for many years.

I guess I had never really thought about the Proof Only Issues in the title. But as I read your comment I just had one of those "duh" moments and it answers a few questions I have wondered over the years.
whats not to love, congrats on the completion
I would love to have a nice vf-xf buffalo set in a Dansco album. If I lived near a place with shows and in-hand viewing I would probably look to start one.
Great looking set, and wonderful presentation in the album! WTG!!

I just finished my Lincoln cent collection about two weeks ago. 1909-2020. Most coins pulled from circulation. Started it when I was a little kid. I bought the 14-D and 22 no D? for sure and others I can't remember. The 1909-S VDB is a fake but I don't care because one of my boys picked it up in change when he was about 14 years old. Anyway, congratulations. It's an achievement. 🏆
