MS62 IMO.
Hard to tell about the luster, etc. Would be better to have some different angles.
I see rub on the hip, probably the tail and horn also - though hard to tell in those flat photos. Also looks like a rub on the cheek and brow of the obverse as well as the braids.
I'm going with some flavor of AU

Mistakes are natural. But repeated mistakes without reflection are something else. That may be the “stupidity” he was referring to. In research, he admitted uncertainty openly. “If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?” This shows humility. Even a Nobel laureate accepted doubt. That humility makes the quote less cynical and more observational.

My first thought was nice AU58. I wouldn't be surprised to see it in a 63 holder. It is a nice looking buff.

While Ron is far more educated on the Buffalo Nickel than I am, I may say that many coins in the early years of the 1900's were stored in coin cabinets for long periods of time and usually face up. There exists a wear attributed to shelf wear while stored in trays, drawers or shelves of which many were velvet lined and there was a very small amount of wear associated with this storage method. The fact that this 1915 Buffalo Nickel shows only high points wear on the reverse might very well be this type of wear allowing the coin to still be uncirculated. If wear was to be consistent with circulation there should be equal or close wear on the obverse as well and, at least to me, it does not, which may account for an uncirculated designation. 1915 year date Buffaloes came very well struck and wear is usually easily noticed.
Again, this is just my opinion.

I see what appears to be very light wear on the obverse, too - note Indian’s brow, cheek and portions of hair. The coin looks AU58 to me.

I have seen coins with more wear than this one slabbed as Mint state pieces. But maybe my old, tired eyes are failing me.
Even if you have, you seem to be describing pieces that weren't really mint state. And therefore, shouldn't have been graded as such.

I don't doubt it. But as for myself, it wouldn't cause me to grade a coin unc. if I felt it were AU.
I'm not saying the coin couldn't grade unc., but rather, to me, it looks AU58. And as you know, in many cases, there's not necessarily much difference between a 58 and a 62.

So true. And I most certainly disagree with any coin with wear graded as Mint state anything. But it is what it is.
