Monthly Minnesota show returns

rmorganrmorgan Posts: 249 ✭✭✭✭

Today my favorite monthly Show resumed (Roseville, MN). I prefer to buy only at Shows where I can actually examine the coins and converse with the dealer – so I’ve been ‘hibernating’ for over a year. Now vaccinated, I was back on the floor.

A few changes… Before the doors opened we had to wait in line, spaced 6’, and then sign-in with contact info as we entered. Had to fight steaming glasses as I wore a mask. No chairs, so I opted to kneel during long visits at a table. One of my must-visit dealers (in his 80s) was not back, and I suspect it was for health/caution reasons. A few new dealers lined the walls – one being three hours away. Most attendees seemed more serious and engaged, which I expected.

I found four early Lincolns for the MS/AU set I’m working on. I found myself eying pricier coins than I had before, and two of three dealers offered me discounts of 30% and 40%. No one was advertising that they were buying silver, and I sensed that dealers were more interesting in selling it than buying.

Well, I had fun. I’m looking forward to hitting the floor each month as I used to.

My strategy is about collecting what I intend to keep, not investing in what I plan to sell.

Very nice, I'll be attending the local monthly show here tomorrow. I have no expectations of finding anything but you never know, I have bought a couple of nice coins at the local show over the years.

Thanks for the report. Glad you got back into the action.

To ALL SHOW PROMOTERS - no chairs is BS. Us old timers with back and knee issues need them.

Looks like a nice show but the lack of chairs would be pretty rough for me as I am a semi-crippled old guy.

Someone explained to me that if they had chairs, they would need to be sanitized between each user. Some could contend that the blame falls more on the state's one-size-fits-all regulations than on the show's organizer.

Maybe we older coin collectors should start bringing our own canes that open up into chairs................ :o;)

@rmorgan.... Thanks for the show report and picture. Looks like a nice local show. Restrictions due to the virus should be fading soon... Most shows already are relaxing. Cheers, RickO

there're these 'wearable chairs', but I can't imagine they're too practical
