Got to visit a B&M for the first time in about a year and a half on Saturday!
A drug screen and fingerprinting (new job, hopefully) sent me to a real city and I was able to carve out some time to visit a shop.
These are my first half dimes and I’d like your opinions (including grade) based on however these phone pics turned out.
1835 Large Date/Large 5C
1838 No Drapery Large Stars
A few pics of each with different lighting, trying to give you something to go on.

    Yes, cleaned, so won't slab at a straight grade, but certainly collectible.
    EF-details would be my grades on both.

    The 1835 is LM-3, R-1. You can attribute it from the "Box 8" in the date.

    The 1838 is V-11, based on the date position, repunched star 11, reverse clash which joins ME of DIME,
    and the 14 degree reverse rotation. It's not a rare die marriage.

    Appears they have been cleaned....I am not a collector of these coins, however, if I were, I would count them as tuition to the series. Cheers, RickO

    Probably cleaned at some time. They would have to be seen in-hand to be certain. AU-50 details on the 1835 and XF45 details on the 1838.

    Thanks, everybody. They do look nicer in hand than the pics (tiny coin, giant phone pic), but I won't argue anyone's assessment. Price/tuition-wise, I think I'm OK, especially since I like them. I'm sure I couldn't flip them for a profit but I never expect that the same week I walk out of a B&M. I bought them keeping in mind that the forum would think they'd been cleaned and will keep learning.

    I think the 35 is AU det cleaned, and the 38 is XF det cleaned. Sorry!
    Edit, I think its unlikely that they could straight grade, but they sometimes cut coins this old some slack, the 1830 MIGHT straight grade but I think it unlikely, and not worth sending in.

    So I checked the results at Great Collections on my coins (and similar) in Details holders. According to those numbers, I did OK. I was probably never going to send these in for slabbing (I never have) but it looks like I still came out OK on these guys. Thanks for all your input.

    As others said cleaned details, agreed if doable price wise I buy them...but I collect h-10's and discovered years ago most toned and were cleaned dipped...etc... then retoned .
    I'll except cleaning to a degree, whizzed..no....
