I dont know if the Picture is good enough but it looks like a p is on top of the nine
CUD
There were no P mintmarks on cents in 1974.
Die chip. High stress in that area caused a piece of the die to break away.

I know about 2017 only have p . Thought it might be a mistake. Thank you for your help
die chip
I agree it is a die chip.... interesting location though, and a good coin to keep as an 'educational sample'. Cheers, RickO
A nice find as 1974 was not known for having chips in the date area.
It is definitely not a cud. By definition, a cud must be connected to the rim of the coin.
Nice find

definitely a die chip Wayne
Kennedys are my quest...
Interesting coin. I like it!
A cud is from the rim into the interior of the die. A chip does not reach the rim.
nice minor error coin you have found and i agree it's a die chip
gathering coins to sell
will sell coins again sometime next month
These used to be known as "Clogged 9" varieties back in the fifties and sixties. They were very common on the 1960-D small date, which necessitated the change to the large date.
Die chip/Clog 9. Found many of those dated late 50's.
