Just closed on eBay....A NGC MS 63 graded 1921 High Relief Peace $1 sells for $990!!

This is a $500 plus or minus coin....how did this happen?
I admit the coin is clean and looks frosty white and could grade 64, but.......are 1921 Peace $1's going through the price roof as some forum members have mentioned?

Super PQ strike for a 3.
"It's like God, Family, Country, except Sticker, Plastic, Coin."
OK, not sure about the grade, or the value, but super distracting action coming off the bridge of the nose.
Did you bother to look at the bids for any shill bidding.........................bet you didn't
There were four different bidders at or above $799. The lowest feedback score among them was 591. Looks entirely legit. Furthermore, the seller is a well-known and highly reputable dealer.
Any other questions?
Bidiots one and all? The strike isn't exceptional.
Oh geez, looked at the thread too quickly and thought you were taking about the 1907 High Relief Saint!!!
I had to look!!
Some people just like to win at any cost.
Nice looking VAM-1H (struck from satin proof dies). The polishing lines are well shown, and the luster looks good. I like it. Bet that winds up in a 64 holder.
But it does look like a nice MS-63 for sure despite the issues mentioned above.
My guess is that the hits that took it down to 63 are on the reverse. The front has a nice 'punched in the cheek' fullness and is relatively mark free
This pcgs 63 just closed as well... prices are clearly high right now.
Pops are big, I don't get the sudden escalation. Not an exceptional 63 IMO.
Is that a VAM 1H? If so, then it is a well known die pair left over from proof strikings. It may have jumped in value because of that and/or possible upgrade or CAC gold sticker potential.
In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
I am not surprised at the price... these '21 Peace dollars seem to be growing in demand due to the 2021 ASE/Morgan/Peace confluence.... Cheers, RickO
Sure seems like a good time to unload the few I still have
The strike looks better than the PCGS example shown. When more than one person wants it- prices go up.
maybe nuclear bids have collided
Kennedys are my quest...
It looks like a strong strike with good hair definition. A little conservation to get rid of the distractions on the obverse, cross to PCGS, and a CAC sticker, and the price might not be that out of line.

Coins that are PQ can bring high prices, aggressive bidding. Looks like some of them got in bid war.
You're right; the coin is an unattributed VAM-1H and that explains the higher sale price. The winner got a good price for the variety, even if the coin doesn't upgrade.

To rich for my blood on that one
Here's a NGC 63 CAC that just closed at $750.
Not great pics....do not like the spot on the reverse.
Still, pretty good money for an eBay auction.

It's bound to have hairlines if it looks that clean yet it's only a 63.
