Why we hunt … a few new Capped Bust girls for the group

Sometimes I wonder why I do it. Obsess over trying to find the few good listings, and read and search and and zoom in and strain to see "through" the pictures … or why I try to engage with the sellers … or why I ask questions, and write notes and messages, and maybe try to turn over the unturned stone.

And then, something happens that reminds me exactly why. Because I might be right … and I might learn things and make new friends … and it might turn into something more.

I often hope that the journey is greater than an individual prize. Such has been the case here.

About a month ago I inquired about a coin on eBay from a seller I did not know. It was a die marriage I already owned, but the look of the coin was something that gave me pause. I wanted to figure out a way to add her to my collection if possible.

I told him I was a somewhat regular poster here, and lo and behold, he is also a member and sent me a message. The more we messaged, the more I realized he was interested in selling several Bust Halves, but had not listed them all. This then became a series of messages that led to the purchase of the 1807 50/20 I showed recently, although this was not the one that had initially caught my eye.

That was a wonderful acquisition, and our conversations after led to an opportunity to make an offer for more. After some back and forth we agreed to try for three more. That package arrived today, and to say that I feel privileged to be the new caretaker of these girls might be an understatement.

If the seller wishes to chime in, I hope he does. Otherwise, he can remain anonymous, as he seems quiet in that way. Regardless, I will always consider him a friendly collector and an honorable soul I crossed paths with along the way.

If he reads this thread, thank you again!

Anyway, all three of these have been seen and stickered by CAC, but not all three are the same grade. If you want to guess them, or have comments, I am all ears. Also, if you want to guess the one that started the whole thing, she is in this group.

And also, thank you all for letting me be here and post my rambling's and my treasures … and read of yours ... I feel grateful all around today. These are my quick pictures. I have his, one TV and others, but I felt like taking a few myself.

Wow, what an amazing trio of busties!

    As for grades, I’ll guess 55, 53 and 58.
Really nice luster on that 21, along with some beautiful, and no doubt original antique type toning on that 33.
But I have to say the 35 is my favorite because of it’s overall eye appeal...love the surfaces on her!

You never cease to amaze me with the busties you pick out for your collection. Each one more beautiful than the next.

    Congrats, Todd!

I sure do admire that 21 you’re showing here. She is a beautiful old girl alright👍

Nice! My favorite is the '21. Besides being a desirable early date it looks lusterful! Great strike, nice surfaces. An exceptional coin in an older holder.

    More great choices, Todd. Congrats.

Nice coins! I’ll guess 62, 50, 55. With the third coin originally catching your eye.

I love the thought that the 33 & 35 appear to have been in old school paper folders/books for at some point in a legit collectors possession how ever many years ago. The toning ring and dark rims speak to a world before TPG plastic tombs kept us form actually touching the coins. (not that it turn out ideally for the coins when we did touch them)

    Just really cool collector coins

I'm in the 21 camp. It looks MS, whereas the others are AUs.

Okay, so ... had a really nice dinner after work with a friend and his family ... and now finally home after a long, but enjoyable day.

Thank you for all your comments. :)

The story is I saw the 35 first, as it was the one on the 'Bay. This then led to all of the other conversations.

The coins are graded 58, 58 and 55 ... which in hand seems accurate enough. Also, as stated all have been seen and have a green bean.

Nice choices. Did you mention an 1807 capped bust half? I’d enjoy seeing that one. Oh, your pictures look very nice. No need for the PCGS view imo. Be well my friend.

    @stman Good to see you!

Since you asked, for your viewing pleasure (and showing her in this thread is probably apropos as they all came from the same collector)
