GTG - 1931-S Buffalo 5C - GRADE POSTED

Here's a coin I picked up last year sometime. It's currently the only MS Buffalo nickel in my collection (I also have a 1937 proof). All grade guesses and comments welcome. Grade posted toward the end of the thread.

I think luster gets it to 66, maybe a + for eye appeal?

I think I'd give it a 66.
I would say 66.
Minimum of 65 and a 66 wouldn't surprise me.
66 was my first impression.
Looks like a 65+ but 66 is not out of the question.

66 all day.
Until you wrote “It's currently the only MS Buffalo nickel in my collection” I was going to guess AU58.😉 But instead, I’ll go with 65+.

Nice coin, I would say a solid gem at 65.
Edited to change my opinion. 65+

I would grade it 65, so I'm guessing it's a 66.
Ironically, the only 3 Buffaloes I own - other than my junk box - are a 1931-S in 66 and two 1937 proofs. WE'RE TWINSIES!
I'm officially terrified!
From those pictures, I can't see anything preventing it from a 66.

I like it. Nice luster and better than average strike for a '31-S. MS66.
Gem Uncirculated. Nice piece but not quite nice enough to make "Superb Gem."
“I believe in intuitions and inspirations. I sometimes feel that I am right. I do not know that I am. When two expeditions of scientists, financed by the Royal Academy, went forth to test my theory of relativity, I was convinced that their conclusions would tally with my hypothesis. I was not surprised when the eclipse of May 29, 1919, confirmed my intuitions. I would have been surprised if I had been wrong.”

I wanna say 6, but I'll go against the grain a say 5.

Prolly a 66 but since I have a 65 that is similar I'll go with that.

I like the look. I bet it glows in hand.
Are there any fully struck 31-S nickels ?
Probably not, at least by the standards of other mints. You might want to search through the examples posted on Coinfacts.
Another coin I sort of impulse bought off of a CRO EB list. Loved the luster, subtle pastel toning, and overall look. I'm far from an expert in grading the series, but it looks gem to me, and the photos capture the actual look of the coin very well. Priced at 64+ money, it was really a no-brainer buy.
Thanks to everyone who participated in the thread.
Looks like I was the only one to say MS64. Thanks for the prize. JK, super nice coin

Virtue is its own reward...
I was thinking 65 comparing it to a NGC 64 I found a couple of weeks ago. Yours has a better strike and and nice color. It seems luster is king to get a 66. Pictures never seem to capture the luster that gets the higher grade.
I wish my MS64 coins had that eye appeal!

@FullHorn , that's a pretty nice-looking 31-S in its own right! Thanks for posting it along with comments.
No such thing.
Sure fooled me.
WOW ... great looking coin!
Wow that's some 64!!
This they called a 65+ Last week and I like yours more. But the consistency on buffs is..

The strike on 1931-S Buffs are better and more consistent than most other years, and for a Branch Mint coin, it holds up well.
There really was not much pressure on employees during the Depression, as very few new coins were needed. The result was a better looking product. The OP coin does show a void at the top of Black Diamond due to insufficient metal displacement, but that doesn't hurt the grade, IMHOP.
At least it was able to rate having a Green Bean.
