It's pretty.
Doesn't look dissimilar to buffs I've seen raw at the LCS. I don't collect these, but occasionally I will see an old collection they bought and will go through it, and it is not uncommon to see a buffalo nickel in a tiny, old 2x2 that looks much like this through my loupe. So that is why I voted MA.
baked
NT I have several buffs with that slight rainbow toning from my having stored them in a cold basement in an ammo can for decades. Yours is a beaut! Peace Roy

Although the purple and lavender is a bit troublesome, I call it MA/NT. Nice looking coin other than the speck under the date. Solid strike. Not the best photo- it seems a bit over-saturated.
That one had a little help along the way.
Purple on a business strike always makes me suspicious.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
Helped IMO.
While I believe it -could- be natural, it looks too similar to coins that have taken the baked potato challenge.
With that said, I doubt NGC or PCGS would give it a straight grade.

It might be natural but has a coloring that can be reproduced, especially on nickels, they tone easily both naturally and artificially, so MA

I love the reverse color. NT to my eye.
I'd say AT, but not a slam-dunk. Possibly MA, but people are cooking these up at a disturbing rate.
I don't think it is blatantly AT but I don't care for the pinks/purples that I see.
I am not a fan of toning. The last "A" in "America" appears to be more of a triangle than an A from here.
Very dubious, but I wouldn't be shocked if it straight graded either.
I think PCGS and NGC might straight grade it, but it doesn't look natural to me.
Successful transactions with: wondercoin, Tetromibi, PerryHall, PlatinumDuck, JohnMaben/Pegasus Coin & Jewelry, CoinFlip, and coinlieutenant.
The strike is nice. I'd keep it for that reason alone. The color is questionable so I would stay away from the grading room with it.

NT.
This date was saved and there are likely hundreds with attractive toning... some more so than others. The reverse is vibrant, but not out of the realm of what exists for the date.

Not Taco Belled but certainly spent some time with the ole hard boiled egg in a ziplock bag. RGDS!

Wooooha! Did someone just say it's officially "TACO™" Tuesday????
IMO.
I don't know but I like it.

Not for me
I have always been told to avoid purple nickels, but have seen this coloring graded before so I think NT and actually like it.

Not common to see tarnish colors on Buffs, but I have seen a couple before. I recall one at a show in the PNW, it was slabbed already, but remarkable due to the colors - similar to the OP. Cheers, RickO
I voted NT, but either way, I love this coin.
MA?
BHNC #203
well, if I group the "NT" and "MA" answers together as OK, the Poll is split evenly.
I acquired this coin maybe 8-10 years ago when I was working in a Coin Shop. though I tend to agree with replies about the color purple, it looked nice and came with a small group of coins that gave no hint of anything improper. I left it be for a while and then bought it and placed it in a Type Set album and eventually just stored in a box in a flip. I had always intended to have it graded and kept as the T.1 representative in my slabbed Type Set, but in recent years I have relented, sold most of the coins off and moved into different niche areas of collecting.
1913 Buffalo Nickels are special coins: usually have a crisp strike and nice detail, the Buffalo looks really natural on raised ground and the fields, especially the reverse, have that textured appearance that looks like "orange peel" on Proof IHC's. so I have kept it.
Thats an extremely nice coin whether it was intentionally toned or not
That is a hammered strike by the picture, but the purple is the problem! mine always comes back AT. even if it is old album toning.
Since I don’t know what “MA” is, I can’t answer.
The photo looks juiced to me. I have an 1864 copper-nickel cent with similar colors, but they are nowhere near as bright as these colors.
What is MA?
I voted AT
Looking closer I am not sure.
It is in the recess and not on the raised portions of FIVE CENTS. Only think that comes naturally. The obverse looks weird to me and pushes me to AT

The question wasn’t whether it would slab or not it was whether it was AT, NT or MA.
The fact that a TPG slabs it or not doesn’t change what it is.
MA = Market Acceptable
The colors are not as bright on my lap top as they are on my ipad, so I don't know what to say. The really bright colors don't look right to me. The less vivid colors look original.
I think someone fooled with it.

Looking outside inward, I see less of a progression going in... no definitive seperation of color.
The lavender stops at USA and does not go to thru the letters and to the rim. But spills thru at 6 o'clock. It is also on the body and legs.
Looking at the Rim... it is clean
Obverse... uniformity
I would think any AT would be harder to control and spill over onto rim.
Since that looks like a TV and I am on the fence... MA
