I think Hanson will get it for 2.5 Million USD, similar situation like the 1854-S half eagle.
Funny. Not close. Doing a RedCopper or another Brasher vs IPO post by chance?
The reserve is there to consider which would prevent a firesale.
That being said, I recall @DLHansen saying something like he was originally going to bid up to $4M for the 1854-S.
Did @RedCopper just say the coin was going to sell for a low price or did he say the coin was an undesirable coin? I think these two are different things.
Saying the price is going to be low could get more people interested, like selling real-estate, while saying a coin is undesirable and has issues could lead to less interest.

Absolutely agreed. I wasn't even thinking about bidding until I heard $2.5 million. That woke me up quick!

The coin should have a hammer price of at least $ 5,000,000 but definitely less than $ 10,000,000
I predict Oliver will probably again be an under bidder .
DL Hansen should buy the coin , no
matter what, but his testicular heft is certainly in question .
If a trophy hunting investor buys the coin it will probably disappear for a long time.
I think you’ve gotten carried away.

He didn’t say that he’d be placing a (competitive) bid, either.

How would that happen without him bidding on it?

He didn’t but I don’t expect everyone to publicly post their exact bid intentions. Do you? Is TDN’s $2.5M bid competitive?

Good luck winning it! It would be great for it to be owned by a forum member like other great rarities

I wouldn't be surprised with this outcome. I'm sure he's preparing a strong bid as it would be a great addition to his set.
It's uncertain who else would be in the running for this at the highest levels.
I'll take the over at $4 million hammer for $1000. Wanna play?

Bwahahahaha. Not gonna happen. I’d bid that in a second just for sport.
ok ok, so it will be 3.5 Million, and yes TDN might be the underbidder, I dont see any other competition here.
I count @tradedollarnut , @MrEureka and @Gazes!
Good luck everyone!
I can officially announce that we just decided to not bid on the 1822 half eagle.
It doesnt fit to what we are doing next, which is Gem Gold. Even sounds good, GG

Isn’t this a coin the DLH NEEDS to buy? How can he pass it up given his stated goal?

Eliasberg had this exact coin so one can argue it’s needed.
He can pass it up if it’s too pricey but it’s better to have it all other things being equal.
