Went to the Knoxville show today. Pretty solid turnout! There seems to be a solid cohort of dealers in that area. About 80% of people had masks and it seemed To be business as usual. I was told There was a silver frenzy on Friday that had cleared a lot of dealer’s inventory. Sat and talked with Glenn Peterson for a solid hour and he showed us some of his favorite coins from his personal collection.

This 1811/10 is exactly what I look for in terms of toning and couldn’t pass it up. The color is amazing in hand and goes from gold to green to red. It really Compliments the brownish/gray tone and looks super original.

Got this one courtesy of @habaraca. A nice 1809 O-114a. It’s got a sweet die crack from the dentils into the EA and down through the scroll. Got some dings in the center of the bust but they look shallow with a loupe. This variety doesn’t come around too often. One of my favorites.

Nice that you got to go to a show and find some coins. Rather surprised that the show promoter did not require 100% masks.

They do. It’s on multiple signs everywhere at the venue. Some dealers even had a sign saying if you aren’t masked they won’t buy or sell from you.

Obviously I was there today. I was wearing my PCGS mask to show off, lol. I ended up with two gold dollars and some raw for my albums.

    Larry Briggs does that.

I think the few folks that didn’t wear them just didn’t have anyone say anything to them. It is What it is.

Yep, that was my takeaway as well. I was surprised to see some dealers not wearing masks as well but they may have been vaccinated at this point? Sorry I missed you there. I enjoy meeting forum members there.

I was there this morning and had a great time! Was able to sell a few duplicates and silver, filled a few holes in albums and had fun for a couple of hours!

Attended Friday. First show since FUN 2020. Felt comfortable, as most had masks on. Avoided the few tables that weren't wearing them. Found a few coins that I liked but couldn't make a deal on any of them. The nice stuff was priced well above retail price guides, so I did without. A Lincoln cent I was particularly fond of was priced at 750 with a PCGS guide of 500. IT WAS GREAT TO BE ON A BOURSE FLOOR AGAIN!

Like your new coins. The 09 really is a toughie.

Sorry you had to sit and listen to Peterson for that long. 😉 😝

Q: When does a collector become a numismatist?

A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.

A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.

30-40 or thereabouts I’d say. Last years was actually bigger. So you could tell the effect of COVID from right before it became a household word to now.
