Really didn't expect this to arrive today, but got back from running errands and doing some chores ... and lo and behold ... another gal showed up to the party, and she is even a little dolled up!

Not quite like the dirtier girls that usually show up around here. ;)

PCGS has a picture (not a TrueView, so for CoinFacts I believe), and I snapped a couple as well.

Guess the grade, comments (good, bad or indifferent).

    Love the surfaces, luster, and strike on this O.113.

    Looks 55 to me but wouldn’t be surprised if it was in a 58 holder.

    It has a nice look overall, but take a look at the patch of scraches under the eagles beak to be sure you’re comfortable that nothing was worked on there.

    Interesting you mention that area. In all the pictures I viewed before I agreed to purchase ... this was one of two areas I really questioned (and I am kind of surprised no one mentioned the other).

    In hand, it is a relatively mild (albeit noticeable) disturbance that appears to be from coin to coin contact and does break the luster enough to warrant consideration. After a lot of examination, it but it does not appear to to be worked (although that could be up for endless debate).

    She is in a 58 holder. I think that is an accurate assessment, and all of her plusses and minuses considered, I am happy to add her to the fold.

    Nice choice, Original Todd. I figured high AU.

    As for the scratches under eagle's head, I saw them and thought "too bad" but I couldn't imagine they were intentional. If someone was trying to conceal something it was very poor work.

    Stuff happens with 200 year old coins. You should see some of my 50 year old photos.

    What’s the dark area above the date? If not a dark toning spot, then it looks a valley of despair :#

    I'm also guessing, MS61. The rub on the obverse is minimal so probably the luster gets you MS, but the reverse scratches would usually preclude a higher grade. It might also grade unc detail scratches, but they aren't very distracting IMHO to get a flat no grade. Seeing this one in hand would be instructive. Photos can make imperfections either more or less predominant.

    Neither actually. It's a luster graze contact that has just a touch of blue green to the toning, and makes it reflect back dark.

    I was going to say it was the Tar Pits of La Brea, but I couldn't do it with a straight face! :D

    Thank you for your take. Good assessment. In hand, I think a straight grade 58 is the correct grade, and worthy ... however I knew I wouldn't know for sure just where it fell in the spectrum, or if that was the case, until I had her in hand. Of course, no matter how good the pictures, that can be a challenge with almost any coin.

    Between the sellers pictures, the CoinFacts one, and some discussion and description, I felt pretty good about trying to make it happen.

    I am glad I decided to try.
