Not for me but it is interesting that they are just pre-orders that will ship later in the year.

With virtually unlimited mintages, they'll be available all year.

I may be in for the Christa Coins. It's a no for the law enforcement coins though...I'll save my money for the Morgan/Peace dollar hoopla coming soon.

these releases are just so weird - don't personally understand the pre-sales

will pick up the christas eventually, but likes been mentioned, we've got plenty of time to pick em up ⏳

Buying them from bulk submitters let you get special slabs like autographed slabs and FDOI as well— stuff not available to us normal mortals

This looks like a trial run to avoid the major rush and clamor when a product has limited mintage and everyone tries to get one (or many) the first hour of sale. It may work...or at least ease the pain. We shall see...Cheers, RickO

With shipping of these months away, I have no reason to rush into any of these. Most have relatively high mintages and some just are not that exciting.

It will be interesting to see if they post pre-order sales and how they go with this new approach of ordering so far in advance.

The only reason to buy them now would be to submit for 1st Strike designation. But I think it is usually better to just buy it already slabbed by a bulk submitter. Except for the rare coin (these days) that has a low yield of 70s, it is more cost effective to buy them already slabbed.

how does first strike work in this case? couldn't you purchase as late as mar 11 for first strike?

You'd have to check with each of the grading services. They are the ones that determine the submission deadlines.

There was more than one astronaut on the shuttle, not sure why we single one out.

The bill was sponsored by someone who wanted to highlight McAuliffe specifically. In any case, since the tragedy she has been the point of focus for better or worse given her status as the first teacher to have the opportunity.

the Christa coin - with proceeds going to FIRST; an org focused on STEM; STEM orgs themselves focused in recent years on raising interest in STEM fields by girls - is meant to commemorate McAuliffe as a memorable female STEM teacher - this coin is not meant as a Challenger commemorative

Is this the birth of a new button?? The PRE-ORDER button. Orders placed today might show up in May...

"The PCGS First Strike program designates coins issued in the first 30* days of the Mint's release."
    Source: https://www.pcgs.com/firststrike

The "release date" normally coincides with the "initial sales date". This, however, is not the case here, due to the "pre-orders".

Please go to the "source" page, and scroll down to the 2021 "commemorative" rows. They currently show a "release date" of 01/28/21, and a "cut-off" date of 03/01/21. I ASSume that the "cut-off date" will need to be updated to reflect the delayed "ship date". This is rational as the posted FS "cut-off date" occurs before the coins even ship.

    Edited for a typo.

it will be fascinating to see [pre]sales figures on these issues - will they release them next week even though these are pre-sales?

usually, although it is hard to tell. The coins that have been back ordered like the Apollo coins in 2019 showed significant sales even though none of those orders shipped for months. But, that was then. LOL. I never declare with 100% certainty how they Mint books their sales and their returns/cancellations as there does appear to be a lag sometimes and they could change things without notification.

the unc mcauliffes weren't too impressive, but the designs really shined on the proof versions
