    Five cents for a washer, someone must have really been in a bind. Judging by the wear I'd guess it was made sometime in the 30's or 40's.

    Why bother? It was probably shot by Annie Oakley and is therefore a collectors’ item as it is.

    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    I guess I worded that weirdly, I would guess it was pulled from circulation and made into said washer in the 30's or 40's, maybe even earlier. Not much wear on it.

    Annie Oakley? Possible, I suppose. She would have been 63 when it came out of the mint, she died 3 years

    The coin is dated 1923 so it could have gotten in under the wire. Before the problems the coins looks to be an EF. At any rate I doubt that she stopped shooting guns just because she had retired.
