+ coins

I just realized I love making them but hate buying them
That is all. Go back to what you were doing.

I like owning them.

I have never made one, but I do agree that buying them is not that fun, I have two.
My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
I cringe if I like the coin because I know it's going to be more expensive. I have only one, but it was reasonable so i bought it.
I've passed on several because of the price. I much prefer the green sticker if I'm going to pay any premium...
My YouTube Channel
I got one on a down cross and was very happy.
What is a + coin?
This is one of two of the highest + coins I have submitted to our host

Difficult to state what is, I can definitely show you what is not!

I just added up the ones I have made = 8 coins

My Washington Type B/C Set
I got one of those but it's minus a point where I'd like it to be.
Sold this one to a member after failing PL
Going back to work now
I rarely get plusses, while in the same order I send in piggyback coins from friends and they get multiple. My coins also don't CAC. I am both the charlie brown and rodney dangerfield of coins!
Maybe you need to change your identity to get more R-E-S-P-E-C-T!

I rarely make a +, but if the right coin comes around and it fits my set, I often pay up even though I cringe a little.

This is my latest 2021 newp. PCGS 58+ CAC

I would rather buy a plus coin than a gold CAC coin. But I enjoy owning both. And it's really fun selling either.
Butterfinger has too many syllables, my real first name only has 3 and it gets smooshed down into 2. "Jermy".
I'd go by my middle name but its even worse! So, last name it is.
I have a couple dozen or so. Only a few were bought with the plus
I think it is pretty difficult to peg what PCGS wants to see to award the plus. My shoo-in's didn't always make the cut. And ones I thought were marginal did.
I no longer try to make them. If they happen during ordinary grading, great.

So true
Latin American Collection
That makes me feel good. I have a couple of plus-coins that wouldn't even green-sticker.

My one and only + is this 1909 VDB — PCGS MS66+

Nothing is as expensive as free money.
The only + I have received back from our hosts (66+ FS). Too bad CAC doesn't sticker vintage nickels (only proofs and major varieties), this one would perhaps get a bean!
Most of my coins are "-" (minus) grades, though I do have this XF45+.
This is a beauty. Congrats on the purchase!
Very nice! I'll bet that's a luster bomb (unfortunately not captured very well by Trueview) - most "+" coins at this level usually have great eye appeal and luster. FWIW, 15% of my collection is "plussed" and I "made" 75% of those. Here's my 66+ VDB..

I own a few (five to be exact). I think that they are cool but wouldn't pay a huge premium for them.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

I hear you but sometimes it's hard not to pay a premium. I'd rather pay it's a nice 66 premium then a bigger 66+ premium if that makes sense.
When I crossed my NGC coins to PCGS ( sent in a big batch) a lot upgraded to PCGS +. I think the big batch concept works.
When I auctioned my commems and walkers at Legend ( I think 90% CAC) they sent in some coins to PCGS for upgrades. Several of the keys went to plus. Some of them were coins that were originally NGC and crossed to PCGS at the same grade. Then when sent back to PCGS with other nice coins some plussed. Then those plussed coins had to go back to CAC.
So my point was I'd rather make the plus then buy the plus. I think it’s safe to say that an awful lot of plus coins used to live in non plus holders at one time.

I think this is my only plus coin. Uber common 56-D Lincoln with an uncommon rpm.

I love + coins! I own at least one in each denomination. I’ve made (I think) 7 of them including a 68+*
I also have at least one 63+, 64+, 65+, 66+, and 67+.
Here are a few:
66+

66+

67+

66+

66+

65+

Way cool
Made these:

64+, ex N64
Bought as a 63, now 63+

Bought raw, graded 63+

I have several that went from no plus, to plus, to next grade higher (which is where I thought they should have been when I bought them).

We continue to 'split hairs' in grades.... I guess to avoid the decimal system
...Any addition to the grade seems to add to the price.... So 'making' them is surely preferable to 'buying' them.... Cheers, RickO
Regarding my Digital Dansco 7070 Registry Set: Coins graded 69 or 70 are ineligible to get a “+” grade. In this set of 84 coins, 15 are graded 69 or 70, and are therefore ineligible for a “+” grade. Of the remaining 69 coins potentially eligible for a “+”, 44 of my coins in this set merit a “+”. Of those 44 with a “+”, 5 of those are the ONLY ones in that grade with a “+”. Not top pops, but a pop of only 1 for each of those five coins.
I haven’t done a count, but of those 44 with a +, probably about 20 or so I “made” via upgrade to a “+” by Reconsideration. The others I purchased.

A little more than two years ago I bought at auction a real nice 1858 Large Letters F.E. Cent graded MS66 by PCGS with a CAC. Admittedly, I paid a strong price. I then sent it to Rick Snow, and sure enough, it merited his Eagle Eye Photo Seal. I then sent the coin back to PCGS for Reconsideration. Even though they had graded it VERY recently as that MS66, this time they added a “+”. Since neither CAC nor Rick Snow recognize “+” grades for their stickers, they both AUTOMATICALLY reapplied their stickers (the cert number remains unchanged with Reconsideration). I won’t show values here, but the differential in pricing of this MS66+ coin with a “+” is shockingly higher than without the “+”.
