Odd “S” stamped into a Kennedy Half dollar...

Has anyone seen this before? Doesn’t seem like the easiest thing to accomplish and there is a faint 2nd “S” like it was done twice

And although the pictures look like it is raised, it is stamped into it.

If you have a hammer and a letter punch it is very easy to do.

I have a set of punches. Send me some half dollars and tell me what letter you want and I'll strike them for you.

I have seen letters and numbers that were hand stamped on coins. But never on a Kennedy half dollar. I don't know what to make of it. Quite odd.

Counterstamped coins are fairly common. The obverse (heads) side of the coin will likely have a "bulge" from the moved metal.

For the seasoned collectors ... it's the latest variety discovered and in the Cherrypicker's Guide. It's a "superbird" Kennedy half!
