The entertainment part for me, in part, would involve outsmarting the person who sold the roll and finding something they missed. I recently did something similar with a mason jar of junk silver coins and found almost a complete date set (not mintmark, just dates) of barber quarters, and filled 3 holes in my circulated early walker half album and one upgrade to my circulated barber dime album. No varieties yet, I haven’t gotten around to the mercury dimes yet and the others. It’s good clean fun.

Here, check this out. So far I went through only 9 coins. I have the two Indians (In which I still have to check out) almost a full roll of wheats. And the two low dated Wheaties. I figure, so far I'm at $8. $1 for the roll of Wheats, $5, for both 1926/1914. $2, At least for the Indians. $8 for spending $13. I Still have 41 coins to look at.

At least at your favorite coin dealer you make sure you get the coins you want before you buy them.
That 1926 and 14 are NOT worth $5 combined. And the one corroded Indian is not worth $1. Don't know about the other one.
Mr_Spud: That's one awesome form of entertainment you found there!! I never got started collecting Barbers, but have often fantasized about being able to put a decent set together in a Whitman folder from a junk box, etc.
Ok, let's stay in the worst case scenario case. Let's say half of the $8. So I'm at $4. $4 so far , while spending $13. Remember, 41 coins left to check out.

But for newbies who might read this , those two circ wheats are common dates. The 1914 is 50 cent retail and the 1926 is 15 cents. The full Indian is 25 cents max. Even if the other one is $1, you are under $2. 100 wheats is $3.

That's not the point. I have 50 pounds of wheats that I've never searched. You could buy 5000 of them, shipped to your house for $175. That's $1.75 per roll.
Instead, I'll wholesale it for $150 to the guy with the rolling machine and he'll charge you $13 for them.
Those rolls are one of the ebay scams we're always warning people about.
But, again, it's your money. There are just cheaper ways to get coins to search.

I spent most of the afternoon searching a bag of 5000 wheats...i got thru maybe about a third of it. filled up about 75% of the wheats in a 1941-74 date/mm whitman folder and about 15% of the 09 thru 41 folder. found about a dozen common indian heads and three buffalo nickels with dates
drank a pot of decaf and had one eye on college football. it was relaxing

Ok, the tally. Nothing big, nothing unusual, nothing valuable, nothing new of an outcome in this sort of items on the vast web. Nothing but the enjoyment and thrill of the hunt! Along with a thread of conversations for or against the OP 's decision to purchase an item that most likely will end up a loss of money spent. In which, I anticipated going in.
Note: I did end up with 48 wheat cents and two Indian cents. One wheat, 1935, possible dd, have to examine closer. Also, one of the two Indian cents, the 1902. Pretty good condition. In its condition, probably worth $3. About the Indian 1902,
Rick Snow, has about 29 varieties for this coin. I'm soaking the coin in acetone as we speak, to remove any debris around the numbers/letters to see the coin more clearer. To maybe see if in fact I do have a match for a variety? All this for the low price of just $13. Thanks guy's

Go Joey, continue to have fun with your hobby. Don't listen to anyone who is trying to tell you how you should be doing it. I look at it like this: 1. I have been blessed with the opportunity to have a bit of fun (not hurting anyone) by staying close to home and playing with coins. 2. The money I save by NOT doing other much more expensive activities far outweighs the money I spend (not invest) in my hobby. 3. I do what I want with my time and my money and it pleases me.

so I drove 15KM and (masks on) looked at her stuff... a tiny bit of silver...
so I offered her $ 20 CAN. she said ok and then handed me an envelope saying: have this also and I hope it makes up for the junk here on the table.
at home, I checked the contents which I thought was maybe some MEX old pesos etc.....
contents: 4 1967 Canada centennial bills value $ 4
2 Canada $ 2 bills Value $ 4
and one 1870 shinplaster 25 cent bill in about VF 30 condition... value $ 120.

Hmmm, interesting that the advertised picture doesn’t even match your pics of the roll paper. If it wasn’t bad enough already that the advertised picture rolls look tampered with.
That’s one of the reasons I never fool around those obviously, if they had enough sense to post it they would’ve had enough sense to open it themselves in the first place.
But the cheap entertainment is priceless :-) better luck next time!
Periodically I release some IHC and wheat cents back into circulation just so collectors like you can find and cherish them. Maybe I should stamp them with an omega to make them even more special. Or maybe a sigma and a tau........

EXACTLY what Joey needs........he can just re-roll them and re-market them on eBay. Maybe for 20% more than he paid? But with an upgrade for the end coins.
Always fun to see someone enjoying the hobby THEIR way, especially when the relative cost is small but the enjoyment is high.
Just as "fun" (not!) to see the knowitalls say their piece, and then, not getting the response they want, continue telling someone what that person SHOULD do and how WRONG they are.
If the OP were brand new and asking for advice, that's one thing. He isn't, he knows he is overpaying/being taken, but it is a cost level he is comfortable with. He actually replied very politely to those that like to tell others how to do things and why they are so smart to do so.
As for the "sell in bulk of 5000 for $150, to someone who has a roller and then resells for $6.50/roll to someone like the OP"....sounds like the only 2 smart people are the one who buys for $150 and resells for a buttload more and the one who only spends ~$13 of "fun money"...the other person didn't maximize their profit potential so that's not someone to listen to on the business side, and the roll purchaser is spending less than a couple lattes to have fun for a few hours.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

About 2 weeks ago, a newbie showed up on this forum having bought some rolls from eBay that had a mercury dime on the end of a cent roll. This forum was so effing rude to him while telling him that he had been ripped off that he went away in a huff never to be heard from again.
The hypocrisy is staggering if not surprising.
I'll repeat what I said twice already: it's your money, spend it how you want. There are, however, cheaper ways to get coins to search.
