1733 8 reales, Mexico City -- salvaged example, maybe from the Rooswijk
Several decades ago I started a date run of these. I had several nice coins. After awhile I lost interest and sold all except the best one.
Let us see the best one!
Latin American Collection
I suspect he's waiting to put in order....who's got the next date?
1734/3 8 reales, Mexico City
Who’s got a 1735?
Latin American Collection
I can't help until '39. Maybe any pillar denomination would work?
I’ve got a 1735 8E but no Pillar for the year.
Agree, maybe allow minors?
Latin American Collection
Let's open it up to keep it going!

Nobody has a 1736 of any denomination?
Maybe use a gold escudo(s) to mark the blank and go on to the next one.
I really want to see more stuff.

Doggedly collecting coins of the Central American Republic.
Visit the Society of US Pattern Collectors at USPatterns.com.
That is a nice Pillar, @MrEureka !
I didn't realize that these types were made after 1734.
Is it from Guatemala? If so, I can understand not being familiar with it, as Calbeto's Compendium lists it as RR, Very Rare 1 to 5 known. Wow, nice.

Anyone for 1737?
I am surprised by the lack of specimens for the run...
Not many people on this forum collect by date.
8 Reales Madness Collection
@TwoKopeiki it seems to me that if you mention Portraits or Cap and Rays there are many people collecting, but surprised of the low number of Pillars. Manly when those coins are quite popular around the world.
I would suspect that, at least in part, that the average cost of the Pillar 8 Reales has something to do with that especially considering that most straight graded XF+/AU or better Pillars come in close to $1k plus or minus. Certainly MS examples can run much higher. Conversely, fairly nice examples of portrait and cap and ray 8 reales can be obtained for a more reasonable price point for average collectors. JMO

I think you were right...
And this is one, not the best et-al, maybe something for melt:
That 1739 should be checked to see if it's a contemporary counterfeit -- then it might have some value.
That's the same impresion that I have, I have taken these to a local dealer, but for what we can see it might be what you noted. Also, I can always get my money back or trade it to another coin.
Thanks!
