$5 and I would see if I could soak that green off. $10 if I was sure I could get tine green off and have a nice coin.

AU, common date, not well struck, green corrosion, what's not to like?

I look at this stuff and often wonder - but is the gunk just sitting on top??- What would a acetone bath do ? But for common date 1926 - I would pass.

I would not buy it... however, for someone who is building an album of Buffs, and knows about acetone soaks or maybe something a tad more aggressive, it will make a nice addition. Cheers, RickO

That’s a nice resto job. That’s the most green crud I’ve ever seen on a buff.
It looks like the pvc has etched into the surfaces some.
I think that without before and after images, I would miss where the pvc used to be. Great job on the conservation!

I would assume that corrosion on Nickel is a bit harder to take hold than what I would expect to see on Copper. Nice Job.

overnight with a few diaper changes.
i do concede it is the first time i've ever acetoned/dipped a silver/nickel coin where luster came out booming simply from an acetone dip. usually it takes ezest or similar. saw the coin and knew i had to give it a try.
had a buff and a vnick a while back with severe corrosion but honest still had a nice look and i thought i could take the surfaces down. they went down alright and look like they came out of a blast furnace. >< ouch. good thing there were low-value but i consider the other one an absolute failure. this i give a 92% success as the coin still has a fair amount of green in the nooks/crannies so a week or more or a stronger substance is required for proper and long-term preservation.
Again, what a nice job. I have tried several coins, including buffs with verdigris with very limited success. Absolute failure with copper with verdigris. I think I was always afraid to soak for more than a few minutes, thinking it would lose any luster or tone that it had. Also, I think i always picked what was available in a higher grade AU coin and the verdigris had just set in to deep. Not very sharp at this, but find it interesting. Thanks again for sharing.

check the archives for olive or a specific mineral oil. those are long-term soaks but pretty successful from what little i've done and a lot of what i've read.
is success in your instances for picking coins with pvc/corrosion to be removed with no underlying damage or not being able to get the verdigris and/or other contaminant off the coin completely? acetone does not remove all green stuff on copper. have had several failures recently in that regard. i still need to pick up some mineral oil as i have heard it is better but a little more difficult to find the correct kind. olive oil is something i always have around for cooking so i should probably just get that going.
oils require some effort to get off of things. hands/bowls/glasses and sometimes the coins. maybe acetone will rip it off the coins? all this stuff takes the just-right touch to pull appropriately. get some junkers, gets some chemicals, have a fan and possibly eye and hand-washing capabilities nearby.

I've soaked copper coins in olive oil and in mineral oil for as long as 6 months, using a rose thorn(yes actually a rose thorn) to gently prod the verdigris and have had some success but not enough to reevaluate the coin. I used to have a hundred photographs of the process but had lightning destroy both my computer and my external back up hard drive. Its what you get when you buy cheap power strips with no warranty regarding power spikes. Stupid is as stupid does.

YES, it would have been nice if this were the ddo i've been looking out for years. i think i had a low grade one a long time ago.
Sometimes that deep green semi-translucent stuff will come off with little or no underlying damage as with your coin. The lighter green opaque powdery stuff is hopeless.

Came out much better than I thought it would. Have an ancient with the same green crud, Tried acetone before but maybe not long enough.
