Big Mo Collection

earlyAurumearlyAurum Posts: 718 ✭✭✭✭✭

This is really an impression collection. All the coins seem really high quality and many seem to the best or most desirable of specific years and types. The 1861-D and 1861-C $5 come to mind. I am surprised that there aren't any discussions on the upcoming auction.
I was personally interested in buying in the first auction but was blown out on the San Francisco quarter eagles 61-S and 62-S .
Maybe folks are interested buying don't to draw too much attention...

Impressive set. Some amazing pieces. None are within my comfort level.
I have wanted an 1861-O $20 for years. I really like the one in this set with its nice toning.
I am sure it will find a nice home. Wish it was going to be mine.

Amazing coins for sure. The missing 1864-S $5’s and 10’s are noteable. Those dates are so tough.

    Yes agree
The entire years mintage of 3,888
1864 S half eagles was delivered to the SFBM Paying Clerk on July 11th

The entire years mintage of 2,500 1864 S eagles was delivered on
    July 1st

They must have both seen heavy circulation

The result were very impressive. The 1864 and 1865-S quarter eagles set records at ~111k and ~50k respectively! Very nice indeed.

I wonder if the collector served on the Big Mo!

The name is a great honor to those that served.

Do you have a link to the auction?

Also, no one pointed out that Shemp Howard (pictured above) was Moe's older brother. :)

The four winningest Bidders in Big Mo:

Bidder # # coins Total $$ Hammer without BP
    8063 7 $526,000
    Floor 4 $410,000
    8026 9 $226,500
    8216 2 $125,000

Anyone care to identify the BIG Winners???? I can't make tab work for some reason. Bidder is 4 numbers followed by # coins.

As a reminder, I don't have one unfortunately. Cool date if you can find a nice one and the price has just gone up.
