That was my first thought. Looks like the typical fakes coming out of china these days. A coin like this should be bought slabbed.

Counterfeit. The rims are all wrong. I have recently seen other fakes on the web with this type of rim.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. The seller of this coin did not believe me that it was a fake. Once they saw the replies here they ended the listing. Thanks for all your help to educate this seller. The seller was very nice with communications and may have honestly not known the difference.
As a coin wears it can change it's appearance, but it doesn't change into something else.
A worn circulated and even mistreated coin still has that original look to it.
As the OP knows, just because a coin wears it does not change it's fundamental look.
Sometimes put the loop down and just look a the overall "look" of the coin.
If it's off it usually jumps out at you if you just change your perspective look at the coin.
The old adage.....stand back and look again.
