The new complaint seems to be that the forum is "boring lately."

keetskeets Posts: 25,351 ✭✭✭✭✭

While I would agree things have been moving slow as of late, I doubt the PCGS Forum could ever be called "boring" under anyone's definition. If that is your opinion, what would you like to see discussed or what topics would interest you? There are many of us here with varied collections, experience and opinions......................help us know what will move the place along at your desired pace.

Even better, if you are "bored" with the topics currently running, maybe you could wade in and actually contribute something of substance, "give" instead of just coming here to "take" for your own enrichment. I would like to read those threads and participate in them.

Let see, we can talk about coins, post some random photos and post humor.

We can not discuss life changing issues that are in the news every single day.

  • keetskeets Posts: 25,351 ✭✭✭✭✭

don't be obtuse, what kind of topic about coins would interest you?? :)

  • WaterSportWaterSport Posts: 6,923 ✭✭✭✭✭

I think with a recent jump in new forum members, and many just starting to collect, lends to topics not what in the past dominated this forum. But hey, its their turn - Old birds teach the new birds - Chirp!

I participate on the forums to stay connected to hobby goings on not to be entertained (though the "The forum needs a little humor" thread can give me a laugh and smile).

My participation level on the forums mirrors my participation in the hobby. For 2020 both have been at a low level due to multiple factors, including Covid.

Here is to a better 2021.

  • keetskeets Posts: 25,351 ✭✭✭✭✭

I also enjoy when members post coins/tokens that I would rarely encounter (@zoins gets a big thumbs up for this).

my hunch is that Zoins is following the Stack's auction!! hopefully, I don't encounter him while bidding. :p

Not enough low mintage exciting Mint offerings that aren't colorized or obtuse.

If this means we need to talk about mostly coins and coin topics along with personal stories that involve coins, that's fine with me. I don't come on here to learn about what kind of heat to pack, ammo or what exactly is wrong with the world right now. There are so many other avenues out there.

I have noticed the forum is a tad quiet lately....by that I mean, not as many posts, and fewer posts that provide information or introduce interesting topics for discussion. As I write this, I realize I am also guilty of that - I have been really busy lately and have not really introduced much at all for discussion. I will try to do better ... Cheers, RickO

It's a wonderful forum, and I think the moderators (both official and "self-appointed") do a great job of keeping us in line and out of trouble, and mostly on the topics of numismatics.

This is my board of choice since I perceive that many who post here are senior collectors and dealers who possess coins and knowledge that are of interest to me.

I don't mean this to be controversial, but I don't want this board to be the same as CoinTalk where I think more junior collectors congregate (and they are important to the hobby!). If I want a board where that is dominant, I can go there.

If I think a thread is boring, I don't open it. I am very happy to see new and young collectors entering the hobby. We need to be patient in the way that we communicate with them, and not chase them away. Remember what it was like when you started collecting?

I have been collecting coins for over 50 years, and pretty much just know the basics. Certainly no expert in any numismatic area. I have learned much of what I know from these forums.

I think these forums pretty much cover everything that I can think of. I for the most part, do not find the forums boring at all.

As I have said before: I love this place!

I'm sure if you don't like my attitude as I don't like yours you can put me on an ignore list. The fact you have chosen not to seems to me that you like to try and stir up drama merely for your own enjoyment. I suggest buying a tarantula so it too can ignore you.

They are ATS & that place is less sleepy hollow than it used to be.
Beware though...Any plastic or sticker talk will get you slaughtered.
As long as you stay on the subject of the coin itself, you should be fine.

The whole world is full of ennui right now. This COVID thing is devastating to fun and overall mental health. People get twisted up about politics. What's happening here is just a reflection of how people are feeling about everything.

  • Boring is good! If you want to fight about politics or religion or just internet spar with a stranger for kicks there are a million places to do it. This is a haven from all the insanity.

Recently I was looking for non coin related information so I did a search and found a forum that was just what I was looking for. I opened up a related thread and read the first post. Then I started scrolling down looking for the 2nd post past commercial after flashing commercial. At first I thought maybe there were no more posts but finally found it after about 2 pages of ads. Same for the third post. I know, big deal, I had to push my finger a little.

This site is free and has very few ads and it looks very professional. There may be some positive reasons for CU to have this site but also some liabilities. It's not our right to post here, it's a gift if you can keep it.

Besides, it's just coins! If you can't find what you're looking for ask a question and somebody will come along to discuss.
We got top collectors, dealers and specialists in about everything. Just post a coin or token type that I have never seen before and I am still happy.

I concur. In psych we call it kick the dog. You can’t lash out at who you want to so the dog takes it boot in butt. From a collector standpoint coins and family are some of the last bit of beauty left in this bizzarro world that is 2020.

Kind of bores me that I don't have five stars yet. But it is what it is as the millennials say. Maybe more exciting in here if there was more variety in emojis. Sixteen emjojis only to pick from? A hundred to choose from would go a long ways in making this place more exciting.

I really enjoyed the posts from members who would locate all kinds of historical info from mint records and other sources. IMO, it was interesting to see the records/info that led to the things most of us know but don't know the details of why/how they happened. Unfortunately, those members now have the red badge of shame for their avatars.

For some posters, I think following the rules can be okay 99% of the time but the 1% of the time knocks them out which is a shame.

Thanks! I love to find and share information. It's great when people participate and we can all learn together. Others do the same and I love participating on their threads as well :+1:

To help me find posts on interesting topics, I do love to use tags and recommend people do the same :)

    Welcome @Danno44

Don't be shy about asking a question or two even if you might find the answer with a search. It's always good to get a fresh angle on information, and with newer members and things that have been missed, sometimes a rehash is just what we need

No, just blue suede shoes. 😉

Q: When does a collector become a numismatist?

A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.

A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.
