What is something the general public believes is true yet coin collectors know is false?

For example, many believe our current cents are still made of copper. Coin collectors know this isn't factual.
Other coin related "facts" the public believes we as collectors know just isn't so?

That collecting modern proof sets over the years is a coin collection worth lots of money.
Older coins are more valuable.

Remember all the "mint recalling quarters" thing like the mint was going to recall the Massachusetts state quarter because the minuteman had a gun in his hands etc?
The mint is not in the business of "recalling" coins. Unless it is a '64 Peace or a '33 $20.

That bicentenial coins are valuble. That two dollar bills are rare. That pre-64 dimes, quarters and half are not worth more than face value. That the "golden" dollars now days are "rare". How ALL pre-64 coins have silver in them (including nickels).

Also guilty of cleaning silver war nickels with brasso cause I couldn't find any silver polish around the house. It works though they're very shiny now.
