Laura Sperber...

Has anyone heard how she is doing? I know she posted she had surgery earlier this month. There are several major events (auctions, legendary coins, etc.) going to auction and yet she has been silent. I would usually expect at least a blog post or two about it. I hope all is well in Laura land. Feel free to PM me if more appropriate.

TDN recently posted that her surgery was "uneventful", which sounded positive.
I understand the surgery was to remove a tumor from her spine, which had been a long-term source of pain only belatedly discovered. I assume her dialysis requirements and treatments continue.
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
A dealer friend stated she was wheelchair bound. If so, please let it be temporary, or allow for it being only a silly rumor by a competitor.
I think that was right after the surgery. It has been almost two weeks which in the post-surgical timeline is like a life time. Presumably she would be discharged by now either to her home or a rehabilitation hospital, which is why the silence is a bit concerning.
On the other hand, it could be good news. It could mean she is focusing on getting better and not the stresses of the coin business/market.
I hope she’s doing well.
I wish her well....... Stress is a killer....... Relax my friends.......I wish her well.
Best wishes, Laura. Looking forward to reading your market report on Saturday.

I hope her passion and great spirit see her though this with as much success as she has with coins.
I don’t think things are great. I want her to hire a nurse to check on her once or twice a day
I'm sorry to hear that. I hope she is not living alone and has family nearby to help. Thanks for updating us.
Perhaps we call all start a KickStarter campaign as I know many of us here would be more than happy to contribute the funds necessary for part-time health care personnel to check on her needs a couple of times per day.
If she refuses I've also heard good things about Apple's line of watches. It will detect if you fall or sustain a jarring injury and automatically alert EMS. Less likely an issue here, but it can also run EKG, detect arrhythmia, and the new one coming out tomorrow will have pulse oximeter built in. You can also send text messages from it. Obviously it is not good as a nurse, but it might be something Laura would be more likely to consider if she doesn't want to hire a nurse.
Recovery is a b... Probably still on meds.

Best wishes Laura.
I certainly wish Laura the best.... Recovery from major surgery such as that can be both painful and slow. Cheers, RickO
I wish Laura the best too.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery Laura.
Anytime you hear of spinal surgery, you know the recovery can be some time. Cutting through all your back muscle can be a painful healing.
Best wishes for your recovery !
I hope she recovers soon.

Please leave the sarcasm out of this thread. My post was sincere.
Never said anything about your post but it sounded sincere.

Sorry to hear that your friend isn't well.
Everybody here has always spoken well of her and shared stories about her being a beautiful person. Always sounded like she had a solid crowd around her, and like you all had super great times together.
There's lifetimes of stories buried in the search engine here and you'll come across them time to time. Sorry to get sappy but, it really is beautiful.
Of all the ways to be remembered forever in the hobby you love, that's a pretty kickass one.
And hey guys please remember your mental health during lockdown. It's never been easier to talk to someone. A professional can help work through things that you might be overwhelmed with (and that's okay).
Some things are manageable in normal times but might not be right now, by no fault of your own, and reaching out is the first step in feeling better.
I talk to my coins. I think I'm OK unless they start to talk back.
Best of luck, Laura. Hope you are up and about soon.

Experiencing our fragility often produces a revelation to appreciate life’s blessings. Here’s to her speedy recovery and for her to take time for herself and for those she loves.
"Got a flaming heart, can't get my fill"
Was hoping she would be feeling good enough to participate; be advising clients or at least follow and eventually comment on the Simpson and other sales as long as it is enjoyable and not stressing her health to do so.
Hope to later hear that is the case. If not able to do that, then at least focusing on her health to the full extent needed.
Hope she is heading for better times soon.

I hope for her continued improvement and am very saddened to hear of her health problems. She has been a very honest voice in numismatics,, many have waited with zeal for her thoughts on the coin market and individual coins. She is very intuitive and whenever I have been at the cac headquarters, her professional man is usually there for a submission. Laura is an invaluable asset in numismatics especially during these critical times.
Hoping the improvement trend continues quickly

Tell her not to give up. I know with that type of surgery there is often lengthy therapy involved. Do not underestimate the resiliency of the human body and the power of a good therapist. I had a family member with a neuromuscular disorder who was left completely bedridden after a prolonged hospital stay from a botched surgery. She couldn't lift her lead more than a quarter inch or even feed herself. Three to four months later she was walking again, learned to drive again, and shortly thereafter she was back to normal. Anything is possible.
Best wishes to Laura for a full recovery!

Mine too and then I sold them and proved that they were right.
Get well Laura sometimes we just need a little time to reflect in a crazy “Karen” world.
A lot of wisdom in this short 3 minute clip. My father taught us kids much of this, I learned some as I grew in my wisdom, and I repent for this un-perfect person, as I rush and stumble though life
God bless get well we’re only here for a short time... enjoy life.
