To what truly "main" reason, you purchase a coin?

Hi guys, alright, I'm pretty sure many of you will post, "it all depends". I get that. Lol. I too, feel the same. But when it comes down to the real nitty gritty. The true reason you buy a coin. Whether it was today or years ago. What's the reason of the majority of the time you buy a coin/s? My main reason is because of the "Beauty". What's yours? Thanks guys.

Beauty, and history, and the link back to childhood coin collecting.
If I had to pick one, it would be beauty. But that would be only about 75% of the reason. Coins are one of the relics/antiques of the past that are easily obtained and enjoyed. Some coins are great examples of craftsmanship (ancients) and others are great examples of working the medium and/or message.
Here is just one of my examples of the word, "Beauty". Of course, if only one likes the toning of a coin? Mind you, I do adore blast white coins as well. Or even not so great condition coins.Lol.

Usually for me it's a value proposition. Some conflated combination of beauty, rarity, cost to me vs market price, history, and hope to not lose money if I sell or leave something to my kids.
Too many reasons to list, but I’ll give it a whirl.
A) Beauty-I look at coins as art.
History- A special place and time the coin was minted.
C) I will leave my collection to my family in hopes of someone to carry the torch along with a good head start. Or, perhaps make their life a bit easier buy selling them for a leg up if needed. Of course my life insurance will also help.
D) My father got me interested in coins so it makes me feel closer to him although he is gone. So, sentimental reasons.
I can’t do any better than those answers. Coins have been with me my entire life. It’s bring me peace in life, my history is in there too.

Beauty (eye appeal) is number one by far.
Buying the coin at a good price for inventory (to make money) is the only other consideration I look at.
If there is a good story to go with it, I am often a buyer, even if it is quite common.
I have never understood the mentality toward paying a huge price for something simply because it’s rare.
I chose beauty because there is no "appreciation of a coin's technical attributes" option.
To me a coin is a combination of grade and attributes(including eye appeal). Attributes that I look for are things that I find interesting when looking at a coin. For instance some attributes for a coin might be an above average strike showing details that aren't usually seen, unusual or interesting die characteristics(die state, polish or abrasions, etc.), luster, depth of mirror and lack of haze in a proof.
Collector, occasional seller
Beauty / eye appeal is where it's at for me.
Wow, Joe, that coin looks more like a Gold coin than anything. That's one thing about your coins. Beauty, beyond measure when it comes to seeing much of your collection.

I do like the rarity aspect however. The good story makes it a no-brainer.
That old famous saying, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." I love the looks of this coin despite many who would disagree.

The dealers might feel like if some of the other factors are there (beauty/history/future value) then the coin will be able to sell and make them money. Ugly, common, unlikely-to-appreciate-in-value coins won't make any money.
In a jest, maybe. Since we’re literally buying money, lol. But I think most non-dealers understand that coins are a poor way to make money. They can be a good hedge in uncertain times and smart buying might be an investment down the line. Still, it’s a good way to lose money. Just like Vegas.
Depends on how you collect. If you're CRH or looking through change then you might do it for the money. If you're a type collector like me or collect certain series then you do it for the history or the beauty of the series you're collecting.
I suspect you'd get different answers depending on where you post this question. Try posting it on the PM forum here and change "for the money" to "for the investment"

I collect coins because of history.
The types of coins I focus on is influenced by beauty and childhood memories.
The main reason I buy any particular coin is for how it fits into my collection.
My strategy is about collecting what I intend to keep, not investing in what I plan to sell.
I picked, Beauty, because I find it in the most peculiar places. Ex:
