My phone stopped ringing in March. I advertise for coins, silver, gold and guns. Bought one gun in 4 months and zero coins.
Not too many opportunities for me it seems.

We have bought alot of coins from dealers shipping us inventory they wanted to move, as well as customers who had coins to sell, that also shipped to us.
Nothing super crazy but some nice complete sets were some of the highlights that we have received during this.
Also sales online have skyrocketed due to not having any shows

There are opportunities but with every Tom, Dick, and Harry bidding hot and heavy in the on-line auctions due to no shows; and my fun money significantly reduced; my opportunities are very limited.

I don't know about coins but it seems opportunity lies in the stock market.
Dealers have been reaching out with somewhat more compelling offers to buy coins. Kind of pushed me over the edge to sell a large part of my collection with plans to start over.

Laid off in March, this has given me plenty of time to search online for things. It has also provided me with ample opportunity to refocus on fitness, vastly improving my cardiovascular health...just in case I get Covid-19. I've been running 3+ miles almost every day. I have had time to get a few other home type projects finished as well. As boring as things have been, I have taken advantage of the opportunities that have been in front of me. Since the county put the basketball hoops back up on the courts, I have also been taking my son to shoot hoops on empty courts several times per week. Focus on health and immediate family. There's been plenty of good but sometimes you have to dig deep to find it.
Not really looking for much these days but if I were, it might be a toner.
My two cents:
Lots of dealers need fresh coins to generate sales and keep their business afloat. I sold my set of cc Morgan’s to my LCS for vey fair money... probably 20% higher than what I would have expected pre COVID. He sold via internet quickly for good money...he won, I won...not sure if the new buyers will win...
Patriotic civil war tokens.... nice tokens seem to be going for strong money at website auctions... I continue to be surprised week after week for what they go for...I am considering selling mine, but really love collecting them...
While generic gold and bullion are up, the $1000-$5000 numistic value pre $1933 gold seems to be moving slow...I am debating adding nicer type coins in this area.
Yes, the opportunities are out there.
I'm not sure where the opportunities are, but prices are through the roof.
A medal I wanted with a $8-10K estimate just sold for over $50K last night.
Perhaps the opportunity is in Tesla stock

So here is my take:
1st week of the shutdown/stay at home business began to die off , however, I did two decent deals one gold bullion &jewelry, and the other scrap sterling that made the week. The Next week, similar , volume of calls and people coming by selling dropped down to little of nothing, but had one decent deal that made the week okay. Then for the next 2 1/2 Months, nothing, I mean absolute zero, nobody coming in selling or even calling on the phone. Then about 3 weeks ago, a few people started to come in again, also had two sizeable deals from other dealers raising cash. In fact the past two weeks have been great for people coming in selling. I keep inventory moving steadily, so i really had little to nothing left when the shutdown hit, but now that I have been able to take advantage of strong internet sales, I can tell you I have never seen anything like it. Strong on lines sales. (I guess due to lack of shows) I even have other dealers bidding my items up strong on ebay, needing to fill up inventories. In fact, some of my local customers are pizzed, becuase I am not offering it in the store, but they wont pay the price, so tough
Good for you. I have also been doing over 4 miles each day. No weight training due to nonsense gym closures though

It's an interesting an unique time to see some things, such as 1.Just how important are coin shows? 2.Will new technologies emerge from "creative" individuals for meeting collectors/dealers' needs 3.Will this pandemic event finally force the hobby completely online?
opportunities are a dime a dozen each day but the question is how many are willing to gamble on those
chances or just walk away from them in hopes there will be better ones down the road
for me i follow some advice my mom gave me always look at things from all angles, see what is the rewards and risks are , then choose if you want to take that gamble or pass

I concur that ebay prices are nuts. With that said though, since covid I have purchased to upgrade 15 proof ASE’s all 70’s. With multiple ACL’s as a result of jumping from perfectly good aircraft my running has been replaced by walking but I have tried to maintain a marathon worth of walking a week. Concur with the member who mentioned rebonding with wife as we are all work from home. Kid did not like it during school year as it turns out I had a hidden tiger dad quality that I had not explored😁

I am spending a lot more time on the Internet to find coins. I'm glad I've learned to interpret photos pretty well, so I have not had any nasty surprises. I have bought some ancient Roman coins, and those are pretty easy to evaluate from photos. I did buy one expensive Proof, a 1937 5 pound George VI gold piece. It was nicer than I expected.
Of course, all of this had been with dealers I know from the shows. I have bid a couple times in the auctions and have gotten my head handed to me, as usual.
I am still hoping that the 2021 Winter FUN will be held.
I collect British £ denominated notes from all of the various issuing authorities or banks in the UK, with a bit more focus on early 20th century. For me anyway auctions of said materiel have been wonderful, got a Scottish quid from 1900 for a pittance in an adverted auction back in April. I just picked up some early Irish £ notes a couple of weeks ago that usually go for far more. Now if in my other area of interest, Massachusetts-Bay Pine Tree coins could have a similar oversight in the upcoming auctions that would be amazing - I really want a nice full flan shilling.
I think it's a good time to view my collection, do some "inventory" work by getting organized, get what needs to be re-holdered or graded sent to PCGS, work on imaging and study/research what interests me or might be coming up at auction. all that should help me not get caught "flat-footed" when things change again.

With all the extra time at home and 200 extra free listing per month on eBay I managed to sort, photograph and list my foreign crowns and have also made a substantial dent in the rest of the stuff I've accumulated over the years in toms-world (the basement).
Also started cooking again and find that I enjoy it. Pre-COVID we would eat out two or three meals a day eight days a week. Way healthier eating at home and have lost almost 10 pounds since March.
Managed to get rid of about eight - ten feet of lateral files, owners manuals, tax receipts, etc. that have accumulated over the last 30 years in this house.

With regard to higher priced coins---i initially thought that covid would make those types of coins cheaper to buy. I now believe that sellers of those coins will get higher prices than pre pandemic. In other words, i have made a 180 degree turn in my opinion on the impact of prices of higher priced coins.
For me work has not changed. I have not missed a day of work since this started. I don't take sick days. The last sick day that I took was about 10 years ago. My wife on the other hand works every other week at home and I love it as we get along well and don't usually see each other during the week as she works days and I work evenings. So this is a really nice bonus for us. My daughter (32 years old) lives with us and she has been furloughed for about 3 months and I've learned more about her in the last 3 months than I had in the previous 10 years, so that was a nice bonus also.
As far as coins and opportunities to buy them, that has not happened for me as I do not buy coins unless I can see them in hand. I am too easily disappointed with people and their descriptions and photos. So that's been a bummer, but looking at the positive side of things I have been stacking 100's for when shows come back.
I hope this COVID-19 crap will not be the end of shows as I will likely be done with coin collecting if that is the case.
