I thought you were going to say you bought it! It would take a chunk out of your other hobbies.
I remember seeing it when it first appeared for sale in mid-March and didn’t recall seeing that particular example before. It turns out that it’s the Browning plate coin! You can positively identify it by the rim ding by star 6 and the dark inclusion at the B in PLURIBUS. The last time it was publicly traded was in 1935!
thanks for the heads-up ricko. i can't view that fox site. total mess.

P.S $102,000. Not $120,000.

Beautiful coin!
It's often interesting to look at the comments when articles about coins appear in the non-numismatic press.
This one was a bit funny to me from the OP link:

Guess she looks kind of like that guy on those Barber coins.

The $102,000 for this 1823 quarter was the highest price and only 6 figure coin sold in that auction, though there were a few coins of higher value which didn't meet their reserves.
Seem to be far fewer six figure coins in the most recent auctions. Companies may be having trouble getting the bigger coins to be consigned in this environment. Even though a few have brought strong prices, some have sold notably lower than their own past prices. Like the 1933 $10 PCGS-65 that brought $517,500 in 2009 and only $408,000 in early June 2020.
Yet looking at prices realized, there seems to be strength in the "under 6 figure" items all the way down to some of the cheap items. Will it be temporary or lasting?

I was actually bidding on this, as I really wanted to own it, but i got outbid before the floor session, which i knew i would as my iniitial bid was not high enough. There was no way i could really afford to chase it with out liquidating a few of my other coins. I sat down an looked at what I could sell a few days prior, and just couldn't part with anything, as i liked everything I still own a great deal. With the covid19 outbreak, i had the worst 3 months in the shop i had ever had since being in business. it will literally take me the rest of the year to recover, plus with my youngest son just going into his second year of college at a moderate priced university, just couldn't pull the trigger. Next bid to me was 90K (108k) , so i passed. And its possible the actual winning bidder was in quite a bit higher (like a hansen bidder) .
Interesting. That would be a special piece for the quarter collection Jim @jdimmick
The picture gives me pause, but that's a rare piece and it certainly appears to be the plate coin for Browning as @NSP stated.
However, for the Fox piece, I had to laugh at this quote;
“To think that one of the U.S. mints would just layer a number on top of another is incredulous by today’s standards,” said Stack’s Bowers President Brian Kendrella, in the statement. “But that’s what gives this quarter its character and sets it apart from other years. It’ also part of why it’s so valuable and sought after.”
I know it's a press piece, but the series has quite a few of these ... some even reported to have had the layer done twice!

Why this coin is required for the bust quarter registry set is beyond me. An impossible purchase for most collectors.

I have a friend/customer who is probably thrilled to see that. He has a PCGS 53 that is a wonderful coin in an old green holder. He tried to upgrade it 6 years ago under reconsideration and PCGS wouldn't do it....which surprised us both! It's a lock 55 shot 58 coin! He's doing well on it...purchased at a FUN show a decade or so ago for 50 something K.
