Opinions on this half cent

I'm looking at this for my type set. The surfaces looks nice to me (based on the photo), but I don't have tons of experience with earlier copper, so I'm curious to hear from those who are are more familiar with what to look for. Does it look good? Thoughts on grade? Thanks!

compared to my 63BN ... the details on the reverse circle are worn and have lost detail ... 58 is my guess.

Agree with high end AU-ish. Love the coin, but if it were mine, I would dip it in acetone after receiving. Looks like the beginnings of some verdigris in places. If I were looking for an AU level coin, wouldn't hesitate on that one if the ask is in line.

A nice AU for an album set.

The coin looks AU50 and relatively pleasing to me.

A nice looking coin but the absence of any discernable luster says AU50, would be an excellent 7070 coin.

An old school XF45. Looks to be all there. Only some hidden "green" spots or corrosion could detract. If some luster visible then I'd agree with AU50.

Thanks for the thoughts, everyone. Seller has it at EF, so that's what I was evaluating it as. Seems like a solid piece at that level. Not sure about luster beyond what's in the photo, but it is destined for the 7070.

Nice old cent.... just the hit on the upper nose as a distraction.... I also would give it an acetone bath...just to preclude the future surprise of PVC... Cheers, RickO

Nice AU for type. Will fill the hole for me.

Cohen 2, it may be the pics, I don't like the light areas of color.

This is the first coin series which had a closed collar strike, so you won't have issues like you do with Capped Bust Halves. Whatever you buy, the coin should be all there for the grade. The 1828 13 star and 1835 are the type coins of the series. A properly graded AU coin won't break your bank account.

If the seller lists it as an EF, that's fair net grading due to the discoloration / beginnings of verdigris in some areas.

I would prefer to see the coin in hand, but it appears to be an AU coin and has an overall appealing appearance. I do have a bit of an issue with the spot on the cheek and some of the apparent mottled discoloration on the reverse, but not enough for me to eliminate the coin from consideration if it was priced appropriately.

That said this type is not hard to find nice, so I would probably suggest being a bit more patient for an even better example.

FWIW, here is the brown version from my type set that currently sits in a Dansco 7070:
