OK it's been long enough. Who won the 1875-P Chopmarked Trade $ on EBay?

10 days ago a supposed 1875-P chopmarked Trade $ was auctioned and sold. Did someone here win it and is it authentic? I will link the auction later.

Not me. Most claimed 'chopmarked 75-P' examples that I've seen have a chop covering the mintmark area, and this was the same story. I didn't feel comfotable springing for it, but would enjoy if someone could confirm or deny the mint based on die characteristics.

I checked with crypto on that. Not a 75-P

I couldn't tell if there was a mintmark or not and do not know enough about the die marriages, but knew it had been wire brushed or something so I did not bid on it.

I like chop marked TD's... but not that one... the head is weirdly obliterated....Cheers, RickO

I had no idea that chopped '75-P Trade Dollars were so rare..I see what ricko's concerns are. The head got chopped and the hairlines are pretty evident too... but if it's that rare, I suppose people will accept the problems..

I'm pretty sure that was just a 75-S. Given the cleaning and the seller, a lot of reasons to pass. What did it end up going for?

too bad it is from this seller as their images are notoriously NON-enlargeable with a lot pixelation. ugh

i'm sure it works in their favor but many items i've passed on and/or had lower bids due to lack of being able to enlarge a bit and knowing they downsize intentionally. still look from time to time.

I saw that but quickly noted it had none of the die markers for the one die pair of BS type 1/1 75p

Some poor soul overpaid by about 600$ (Retail), I hope it wasn’t a collector. Flipper that’s on them

Yep, definitely not the right die markers.

Given the propensity for rare chopped P mintmark T$ to show up with a perfectly placed chop right over the MM area, it's a wonder to me that some folks still question that chopmarks were ever "added". Someone pass me the Kool-Aid.
