I just did a quick search of Ebay completed auctions. Sold listings between 6.60 and 28 for one coin! Most were on the lower end of course.

Had I won the item at auction, I would have immediately sent a certified letter to the US government asking for clarification of my right to hold title, while offering to surrender it, without undue delay, if I was not legally entitled to possess the item.
If the powers that be said, 'keep it, it's yours', I would be a happy camper to this very day!
If they said 'No, give it back', I would have done two things:
Returned it, in person, and with two witnesses at hand.
Sent certified letters of demand for full reimbursement of purchase price, and all costs associated with my returning it to the feds, to both PCGS and Heritage Auctions.
Sounds like a lot of trouble with many potential pitfalls and costs. Why not send that letter to the feds now and ask for a status before you bid up the price at auction?
