Interesting thread. Four or five years ago there were two PCGS Peace dollars graded MS68 long ago (none at NGC) and a bunch of MS67 coins - not a single 67+ at either service. I started a thread asking why back then. Shortly thereafter, MS67+ coins started appearing at both services (because of my thread, no doubt).
Now, our host has graded 9 of them, all low relief. I’m not sure how many NGC has assigned.
Are we to believe that this coin is in the top 20 or so of all Peace dollars? Seems like quite a stretch. Perhaps it is insanely lustrous - the reverse seems to be. Perhaps most of what I’m seeing as hits are only areas of toning. Still, there are field issues behind Liberty’s hair bun and a hit in the reverse rays and in Liberty’s crown. Perhaps the photos aren’t helping it any. Strike could be a bit better and there are some light luster breaks on the feather points. I could see it as an average to weak 67 if it’s really nice in hand, but I’m not a buyer at a 67+ price. Not from the photos anyhow.
Just for the heck of it, I pulled up photos of the only PCGS 67+ of the date from Coinfacts. It may just be lighting, but it appears to have far better luster than the NGC coin. The obverse is also cleaner overall. There are a handful of nicks on the reverse.

Now that is a 67+
The coin in my OP has so much chatter on the obverse. 67+ on a Peace Dollar should be treated like 68+ on a Morgan, and should be a very special coin.
I would like to think I know what I am talking about with Peace Dollars.
My guess would have been a 66 since in was in a NGC holder.
But I would have never guessed a 67+
at least not from those photos
I would hope it looks better in person and the photos are off somehow.

With the disclaimer that I’m guessing (rather than assigning) the grade, I’ll go with MS66.

Nice 64, could go 65 if early in the AM with the grade still hung over. Congrats!
The whole worlds off its rocker, buy Gold™.

Wooooha! Did someone just say it's officially "TACO™" Tuesday????
NGC 65. Not sure it'd cross.
Nice coin! ... That coin is pretty clean, and has nice balanced toning. I'm thinking 66.
Obverse has a nick in the rays between I and B. Long marks on the open fields left and right. Bag marks on the neck and edges.
Reverse: rotational mark across UN. Bag mark on the eagle neck.
What's up with the toning at 3 and 6? Any rim marks?
63???
65 here.

I'm at MS64 but if it is a 65, I wouldn't be upset.

This seems like a trick.... so I'll go against the grain and say 62

65+. The reverse is easily a 66.
Overall 65.................64++ obverse and a 66 reverse.
My initial thought was 64....so I'll go with that. (Ignoring that guys who know better than me are guessing higher).

There are several minor dings and marks.....overall, it appears to be a nice coin - but looking closely, I would say a 64...Cheers, RickO
Thanks all. We are all in agreement. I would grade the reverse at a 66+, and the obverse at a 65, netting a 65.

So it was a trick.. I just went the wrong way
No way should that coin be in a 7+ holder IMO.
Marks in the fields and high points, a triple reed hit under GOD...
The reverse is very nice at least

Well, at least I got the "not sure it'd cross" part correct...
I was way off. The coin must be a luster bomb. Definitely a high end 64.
too much obv chatter for 66.
64 and a nice one !
then I saw what you revealed, why am I not surprised!
I'd say 64! I just got the grade on few of mine and was pretty tough on me!

Wow, and I guessed 64. I am usually pretty accurate on dollars.

64 obv and 66 rev --> 64+ shot 65

Mechanical error? Really bad photos?
Great looking coin... Has the look. I am in the 66 camp... Unless in hand it disappoints and does not live up to the image

Wow, I was going to be conservative and say 64, because I also thought it was a trick, in the other direction.
I think the coin maxes out at 65.
