Do you look at ALL your coins....ALL the time?

I find myself shuffling through the boxes and only pulling out the "special" ones to look at on a "regular" basis.
I don't know why I don't dump all but about 10 coins.
This is crazy.
I wonder how Dell Loy Hansen peruses his stuff.
The only coins I look at in toto (a tray full) is foreign coins.

Nope. My best stuff is in a safe deposit box and a number of my coins are in rolls and tubes. I’ll look now and then but not very often. I may sell some stuff later this year, too.
I have a fairly large number of favorite coins that I used to go to the bank an examine all the time. My bank lobby has been closed for three months now because the virus, and that’s the pits.
I have large number coins that I don’t look at that often, but when I am assembling exhibits or have some research project, they do come in handy. The great thing about a type set is that its contents can be applied to a never ending list of projects.
I do have a few duplicates here and there, and I do sell them off now and them. The trouble is the current market is bad for a non-dealer seller like me, and getting money out of them is hard.
No, the coins are put away, but I do look at images of my coins all the time!
That's what I like about Collective Coin.
Shows em ALL.
with all the info, too.
No.
Small collections are stress free!
"Got a flaming heart, can't get my fill"
Every other month or so or when I add one to the collection. They’re usually just the way I remember them.
No, my best coins are in a safe deposit box, save a few that I had at home when the shutdown went into effect. The branch is also closed.
Create a collection book with a page devoted to each coin with good pictures and a description of the coin. Then you can keep your coins in a safe place while you look at your collection book.
A good friend built a collection book of my collection for me years ago and I've used it ever since.
My PCGS inventory is all imaged so I can look at them at any time. Also have most arranged in 10 different digital albums that I can view as well. View different coins nearly every day.

I rarely look at my coins, they sit in safety deposit boxes across town, lonely and in the dark. I'm not a very good owner. Very few of them are even imaged---this is something I need to do when I have more time.

Good Thread! I do constantly do a go over of my collection every now and then, it's fun! Talk about going through coins again that already reviewed. About 3 weeks ago, I bought a box of Cents from the bank. Went through them already a couple of weeks ago. I still have them, the banks are still closed to cash in. I don't want to pay a premium at any coin exchange mach. In saying that, I recently heard of a variety in the Cent I haven't been checking, 1980 DD. So I decided to go through the whole box once again! Lol. Maybe, I'll find that elusive 1980 DD ?

Actually no.
No just if I'm super board or I get snowed in
I usually look through the box of slabs or raw tray that I'm updating and maybe once every two months go through everything. I tend to look at my medals more often as they are raw in trays that I have ready access to.
+1
The fun of a coin collection is not too evident in this thread.
True, but that's the downside of owning a collection of "meaningful" value. For my collection, it also isn't just about the money. If something happened to it, I'd almost certainly never be able to replicate it a second time. I'd have to start over with something else. My SDB is a block from my office and about a 15 minute walk from my home, so normally I review it every few months.
Any coin I no longer enjoy looking at I sell or trade away. I highly recommend this approach! I even apply this to set collecting which is why I’ll never have any completed sets.
I look at my coins all the time, but only a few pieces each time.
Since this is ‘just between us,’ I usually carry one or two of my slabbed coins in my briefcase to view occasionally as a stress reliever. There is something about dark, dirty, and old gold that makes a perfect distraction from work and office drama. Always in private though!
All the important and expensive coins are keep at the sdb which includes the bulk of my slabbed coins, I have a few albums; a fv merc set, some nickel sets from pocket change, and the like that I keep here and look over now and then. I also have a few inexpensive slabbed coins here now and again in a small safe to look at and hold. My photos that I've taken and had taken are great but do lack the enjoyment of tactile feel.
My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Like TV, religiously! Seriously, once I grasp visually what a coin is, I have little reason to ogle it.
If I were so insecure to need to periodically review all my coins, I would probably be a narcissist.
I wish I had x-ray vision to see what's hidden away in the other safe deposit boxes at my bank.
He who knows he has enough is rich.
No, but I do have a group of favorites, maybe 20% of my entire collection, that I view frequently. I also have images of most of those favorites that I look at more often.
Simple answer is no. I have found that I'm not able to look at all my coins all of the time, so I choose to look at some of them all of the time or all of them some of the time.
You can look at some of your coins all of the time, or all of your coins some of the time, but.......................
Most of mine are in safe deposit,
which I do go and visit them from time to time, but having nearly everything trueviewed, I can and do look at some of mine everyday.
I agree, if you don't get to view your coins and enjoy them, why do you have them?

I cycle through boxes, look at each coin, and record my thoughts in a spreadsheet. (Engineer: If it can't be put in a spreadsheet, it's not important).
I try to ask myself, "Do I like the coin? What are the pluses and minuses? Why do I have this coin? Does it fill that need? Should it be upgraded? Sold?"
Over time, that spreadsheet is pretty honest and complete....And I look forward to assessing each coin again.

I look at some of my coins from time to time....often to check for something specific that has been mentioned here or on other forums. I do not keep my coins in an SDB....They are with me at home...Even with the lockdown I can view my coins...
My philosophy is that if I cannot have my coins within reach, why have them at all?? Cheers, RickO
Same as RickO, my collection is home with me. my slabbed coins I don't look at all that much, same with proof & mint sets. I do like looking at my Dansco albums.
At my age, not so much. I have too many. But I do, from time to time, pull them out and go over them. I have this other hobby, it’s imaging my coins. So with that said I can just set my photo album of my coins on slideshow and kick back and watch them on the big screen. It’s much more comfortable that way and I can see them in their best light at the same time.
It’s a great hobby and with a forum like this it even makes it better.
Carry on my coin brothers and sisters😊🇺🇸
Every day I'm looking at them. Today I was going through some of the cull/near cull stuff. and thought I might start a thread titled " How low can it go ?"
Wondering if submitting might be fun, again. 1883 "No Cents".
Or no sense ?

I definitely have a few boxes that I go to far more often than others.
36-42 proofs
Buffalo Date set
Peace Dollars, particularly the 21's
Once in a while I'll pull out random other boxes to see other parts of my collection.
One of the reasons I like using Gold Shield is I can just scroll through my inventory to see trueviews of a lot of my coins, the ones I submitted anyway.
Collector, occasional seller
Well, I don't look at ALL of them ALL the time. Sometimes I go to my job to earn money for more coins.
In general I keep them around a week or two when I buy them. They get photographed and they go off to live in the dark box at the bank. The photos I look at routinely. When I visit, usually they all get a quick look to make sure they feel loved and they're not doing anything naughty.
Don't forget the collage.
That reminds me. I re-did mine to include the Flowing Hair Dollar.
Upper left.
Nice montage with great looking coins.

I slipped. Had to cover the Spanish Trail that's at GC now.
All of them, no. But usually when I add a new one, I'll look at the others in that particular box. Like the others, I look at images more often than the actual coins.
My YouTube Channel
Not regularly, but every now and then, I will look through some of my coins.
No. Just one at a time, when I have the time. But I do need a coin fix at least once a week....feed the need.
My coins are in the bank but I do look at images of them on the internet.
Has anyone had their images developed into real photos (hard copies) and made a photo album to remember your collection after they're all sold? I've been thinking about doing this for some time.

The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!
My Jefferson Nickel Collection
My most valuable coins are in a bank SDB, and all of them are imaged. Every now and then I'll look through them at the bank, and take one home for a while.
I've got a variety of albums of coins at home. There are also a variety of individual coins floating around home. So generally if I need a tactile coin fix I look at the ones at home, and look at the images of the more expensive ones when I need a high end fix.
U.S. Type Set
I most often see my coins while going thru the photos on my phone. They're mixed in with family, kitty cats, travel and lots of other stuff. I usually get distracted by one of the coins and start messing with the zoom to look at details.
I enjoy re-examining my coins all the time. I've got binders and binders of coins to enjoy. Part of the ritual is, I am replacing the old flip staples with flat staples. Perfect time to look for errors that I was unaware of decades ago. The hunt continues. Peace Roy

Not only do I look at them all the time, I also enjoy holding them as well. In other words, I have no slabbed coins in my collection.
