GreatCollections is pleased to announce the Catskill Collection of U.S. coins, the most valuable single collection ever consigned to our firm.
All coins are being offered unreserved in GreatCollections’ June & July auctions. The total value, as listed by PCGS and NGC, exceeds $6 million.
The owner of the Catskill Collection purchased most of the coins from private dealers over the past decade and focused on quality, history and rarity. Apart from the many key dates, there are coins rarely offered in any grade, such as scarce Territorial issues, patterns and proof gold. A good number of the coins have been approved by CAC, including most of the rarities.
Ian Russell, president of GreatCollections said,
"What a privilege it is to handle these coins — there are coins in this collection that we would love to see once in five years, yet here they are, all at once. We have already received a record number of inquiries about this impressive collection."

Thanks for the link. That MS67 1907 High Relief is a stunning coin ...
Wow... what a collection... and to think it has been somewhere in my area all this time....No idea who the collector is or where located....Just that the name indicates (possibly) somewhere in my area....Of course, the name could be totally unrelated....Cheers, RickO
More validation of GC as a serious player in the auction space. Congrats to @ianrussell and company for so successfully filling the void between eBay and the traditional auction firms!
Someone posted this earlier, but thanks for the reminder and link.
Amazing collection.
You’d think but then it may be someone who just likes the name. For example, I’ve been told the original owner of the Knoxville collection had no association at all with that city. It’s just a shame that such awesome collections have to be hidden away in vaults/dungeons except at auction time.
Nice catch Ian !
I bet this collector had a blast building this collection with so many different series and rare coins. But assuming the collector is alive, i am guessing he is also having a great deal of joy watching the coins sell at auction over the next couple of months and finding new homes.
I have not bid on a coin at Heritage for years. Reason being high buyer fees.
look forward to when they come up for bidding
Kennedys are my quest...
Many are already posted and have bids. Others have already been sold. I imagine still more are waiting in the wings. Here's one I'm tracking to give you a taste:

What could I buy for a $102,000+? It doesn't cost me a dime to admire and appreciate this coin and the person who buys it will have a beautiful lifetime piece.
Kennedys are my quest...
That collection sounds like a treat! I bet Ian is having a field day!
Congrats too the Catskill collector and congrats to @ianrussell!
Not that dollar, as it'll probably close for at least double that.
I'm in total agreement with your sentiments. I don't need to own a coin to admire and appreciate it. Even better when one can actually hold and examine it during lot viewing.
