Machine Doubling is what you have there.

Your coin shows a very flat and shelf-like characteristic. In addition, there is no evidence of split seriphs, all of the edges are rounded, not notched. It's mechanical doubling, not hub doubling.

    Hope this helps

research mechanical doubling versus a true double die
the more you research the better you gain knowledge
those in the know will always tell you the truth about the coin
this site has some of the most astute and knowledgeable people in the industry
trust what they say but only you can become satisfied when you research, research and research to what they tell you
have you received any offers to buy
I seriously doubt that you will
nobody here is on line here to rip you off but to give you an accurate finding
keep the faith and keep on questioning
hope you find that special coin that you are looking for at the right price

    Kennedys are my quest...

Classic machine doubling on the first one. 1963 DDO Die 1 on the second one. Note the notched corners on some of the letters and how it looks like one letter is "lying on top of" the letter underneath.

@Dh1979....Welcome aboard.... As stated above, it is machine doubling.... a major clue to DD's is split serif's....There are good reference posts here on the forum (do a search) as well as online and books. Good luck, Cheers, RickO

    My dealer friend just talked about this same subject yesterday. He explained it by using the tips of his fingers, like thus;

Where the tops of the letters are. That should show similar clefts. Good Luck. All the advise is excellent above too! :)

"Jesus died for you and for me, Thank you,Jesus"!!!

There is a lot of glare in that picture... I do see something and it could be more machine doubling... but a better picture without the glare would help us to define it ....Cheers, RickO

  • The glare is pretty deceptive!

Looks like machine doubling and maybe some die erosion. Cheers, RickO
