That is a sweet coin, plenty of history. If I had to pick a "dream" coin it have to be an 1848 "CAL" quarter eagle.
My dream coin is usually the next one I really want to buy but not sure if I should. So it changes with each auction or post, lol.
I have quite a number of dream coins. Wish I'd bought a nice proof $10 Indian when they were relatively affordable twenty years ago. Would love to own a nice 1795 gold piece or an UNC early dollar or half. And I'm still upset with myself for passing on a gorgeous gem Gothic Crown I was offered over ten years ago. For that matter, I'd buy my avatar coin if I ever ran across it!
ONLY with CAC!
Lurnt my lesson.
FAIL
1861D gold dollar right now. It may change tomorrow.
Right now....
That's a pretty dang cool coin to have as a dream coin! This might seem odd, but I have never had a dream coin and likely never will.

It would be this one-nicely toned 1916 doubled die obverse PCGS MS64.
Doesn't hurt to dream big. Heck, i never thought I'd own some the coins I do have

Do tokens count?
Two known, both in museums.
Bonus points if anyone can tell me the significance of this token
.
From coins I cannot afford or will never come up for sale: 1861 CSA original half dollar and 1729 Madrid patter pillar dollar
From those I can (possibly) afford: Any number of plate coins in Gilboy's reference on pillar coinage and several from the Richard Stuart and Patterson collections.
Dream coin for me would probably be a 1850 $10 Baldwin & Co. pioneer gold coin or possibly an original confederate half dollar.
ANA-LM, CWTS-LM, NBS, TAMS, ANS
"Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working" Pablo Picasso
It would be a 1856 flying eagle cent in PCGS MS66.
A decent quality 1792 half disme. That’s a show-stopper in US type.
1870-S Half Dime---a coin that even Eliasberg never owned.

Ooo...the ones made from Washington's tea set?....yup, yup, yup
1870S $3 gold would be another.
The general Slocum? One of the worst maritime disasters ever; steamship burned and sank in New York with loss of hundreds of lives.
Changes for me often, right now it would be an 1878 S Liberty Seated Half Dollar.
Paper money eventually returns to its intrinsic value. Zero. Voltaire. Ebay coinbowlllc
This works for me. Article said it’s a PCGS MS 65. Whoa!

That would sure be something

Beautiful dream coins! Mine would be a highly graded 1992p "close am" Lincoln Cent. Look every day in my change and rolls!

An attractive, high grade, unmessed with, 1804 dollar. I love the DBHE design, and, let's face it, it'd be fun to have an 1804.

Okay, this is simple. The only currently legal example 1933 $20 gold.
Then I could sell it and likely buy a BUNCH of whatever I wanted.

I'm a big fan of Classical Syracuse too, but for me the smaller Tetradrachm is my dream coin. To me it's the "Mona Lisa" of coins.
Syracuse, Sicily. Silver Tetradrachm by artist Kimon, c. 405 BC.
If referring to the horse rider obverse, probably my #3 US coin. Original CSA half dollar is #1 and the 1792 Washington half Getz pattern in silver is #2. 1822 half eagle is my #1 US regular issue coin.
At this point, probably this one

I found my dream (icon) coin in 1975 but missed the chance to buy it. Waited 11 yrs....then got it in '86. Owned it for 18 yrs. Longer than anyone else since James A. Stack. So been there, done that. And even today I'd still call this my dream coin.
Here's mine. Or more correctly, @tradedollarnut's and formerly @cardinal's!
Somewhere along the way it lost it's awesome 00001794 PCGS cert number. I wonder if there's a way to get it back?
I’ve alway loved this issue. Never have seen one in person.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
That's a great coin and one of my favorites. I haven't seen one in person but would love to see @boiler78's.
I have seen @Lakesammman's Kohler & company using the same Vaquero die, formerly in the Robert Bass collection. It's a great piece!
I rarely recall having any actual coin dreams. But I did one time dream about looking through my pocket change and finding a coin like this in the war time (silver) composition:
I just finished engraving dies to over-strike some of these 3D 1942 nickels:
Great idea!
It would bee fun to make one like the 1955 DDO cent but with 3 overlapping Ds for the big D above Monitcello
Will you tone any of these?
I was very fortunate to own one of my dream coins.

My dream coin...yes I do have one....is a 1964 D Peace Dollar....To borrow a phrase 'They are out there'... Cheers, RickO
CAC may equate to some money, but where will you get a 'CAL' with such a great look ?
Where that's a "normal" Ferrari (~$250K), there's one notch higher of the same type, more at the Enzo Ferrari level ($2.5M):
I wouldn't complain if one of these fell into my box:
The US Treasury says that all were melted. I'd have to see one in hand before I believe any survived. You can certainly feel free to dream. I have a granddaughter that believes there are unicorns.

Yeah, but if it had been known to the numismatic community at large while he was still actively collecting he'd have owned it. Same could be said of an 1870-s 25c or 1873-s half dollar. Wouldn't mind owning either of those. Eliasberg did well to acquire the unique 1873-cc No Arrows dime when made available in 1950.
