I think the obverse design has a good feeling of depth and focused energy. I like it. The rev. texture is kind of neat too. I might consider getting one.

Interesting that most people here don’t seem interested in these. I predict these will sell considerably more than the American Legion coins last year simply because they involve basketball. (Not saying they will be worth much in after market). And for the half dollars, where the enhanced uncirculated has a max mintage of 75K versus the regular uncirculated with max mintage of 750k, I predict the regular uncirculated will ultimately sell less. Maybe around 30k. I believe casual collectors will really go for the silver dollars. Should be fun to watch and plenty available for whomever wants them.

I do not like all the US Mint commemoratives, but this one interests me. I liked the Olympic coins, lady Liberty, Baseball, Mark Twain, Apollo .... I can imagine it will be cheaper later unless silver follows gold and exceeds the previous high in actual market value. This is not exactly the best time to buy silver if one has been actively collecting in the last 10 years.

Most here are not excited about it, but for those on the fence, let your family see the US Mint brochure as a hint for any upcoming birthdays or special holidays.

Got the Usmint brochure for this release....

Showed it to my son, as he has been missing playing bball during this lockdown (and his varsity senior year of HS ball ended early March). Asked him what he thought......he took 1 look, wrinkled his nose, and said "Ewwwww! No, Dad, just NO!"

Their artists and whatever little committees they use for their designs like these are failing miserably.

Then, I saw the price for the clad units....I wrinkled MY nose and said "Ewwwww! No. Just NO!"

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

    from CDN email today:

The basketball coins include a clad half dollar, a silver dollar and a gold five dollars, struck in Uncirculated and Proof finishes. Another clad half dollar with an Enhanced Finish is being released in a special Kids Set. This is the first commemorative coin that the US Mint has ever produced with an Enhanced Finish. At a later date, a portion of the basketball half dollars and silver dollars will be colorized — another first for the US Mint.

Had to get the baseball coins, got the silver dollar Apollo coins, but will probably pass on these (at some point I will probably pick up a few). Do like the game, at least at the college level.

The kid's set with the EU half will definitely sell out. Gold pricing is a bit high...even the silver dollars are a bit pricey.

Did you know Canada already did a curved basketball coin? Yep. Back in 2016. And it's also colorized, which seems to be rampant from the RCM...

And there was a Euro from Finland in 2015, not curved though...

And Australia did one 20 years ago, also not curved...

Coins go on sale tomorrow, 6/4/20, @ Noon EDT

Who Is In ? Which will you be going for ?

With pent up demand do to most sale dates delayed -
Do you have an interest in this series?
Which ones will you be trying for?
Will the mint experience computer freeze ups and another disastrous opening day?
Will there be sell-outs of any one of the products? Which one(s)? When? ( @Onastone above suggests the Kids E-Unc will sell out )

I just can't justify the GOLD this time even though I'd like to get them. My wallet would throw a fit if I put these in the cart. I don't want to endure that and neither would my wallet.
I'll be trying for the Kids E-Unc, Then the Unc & Pf Half and Dollar. So 5 total. Alarm set for 5:35 AM. Credit card verified. I'm ready as I can be.

I agree that the design just isn't what it could/should be. The mint has been failing with the designs lately, and it looks like that will continue on.

Sounds like a good plan. I agree with others here on the gold, it's not a very friendly price. But don't forget, these are all just introductory prices tomorrow...they all shoot up after that.

Definitely politically correct design. If I end up getting one it will be to complete the set of the now three different 3D round coins from the US Mint.

I wonder if the Mint will reach the sales threshold required to be able to distribute any of the surcharge $$$ to the HoF? I hope launch day was more enthusiastic than what has been reflected here.

    That's an Incorrect statement.

The Mint only changes prices for Gold on Wednesday. The price for the Gold Proof was $644.50 yesterday and the Gold Uncirculated was $634.50 yesterday...Just like it is now...

The National Basketball Association (NBA) is going to play the rest of it's season games at Disneyland.

Does that suggest an addition to the coins?
