I went to a pawn shop in 1999. They had a 1999 silver proof set in the case. I asked how much they wanted for it. The guy said $40.00. I asked if he would take $30.00. He said best price $35.00. I told him he drove a hard bargain, but I would take it. Left the pawn shop and went to local B&M. Sold it for $225.00.
I enjoy strolling around a flea market. Big one nearby has a lot of house clean out guys displaying gobs of raw items. I am armed with a good loupe, cell phone, numismatic knowledge, common sense and some self control. Peace Roy
Good day today at my local pawn. Some poor man worked a$$ off for these. I appreciate them for the hard labor done to support Appalachia’s families. The lumber ones can be particularly hard to find.

A couple of good pickups from my local pawn shop. this morning. The sterling pistol expert medal is not common at all.
I think the half dime is wholesomeness
Your 1857-O half dime is an example of the V-2 die marriage - vertical die gouge in the base below the rock (left of the shield), and low O on the reverse. I agree it's "wholesome" - the reverse would grade at least EF-40 because of all the leaf detail, and the obverse maybe a bit lower.

That’s super informative. Thank you for looking that closely and taking the time to share. I appreciate it.
Thank you for making it possible by sharing your great photos, on a fun topic!
I'm mostly just filling in for @MrHalfDime,
but I also enjoy figuring out the die marriage!
Picked this up at my town dump free pile. I like it as I ventured there a few years back. Measures about 48" wide. Appears quite old. Hangs in my hall. Couldn't get a very good photo of it but you get the idea of what it is.
Would you believe almost 60 degrees today here in West Virginia? Got out to a couple of yard sales and to my local pawn. The final price was 25 and 45, not great deals but good prices I think. The 85-O has the thin shell around the holder like on the doilies.
This was at the flea market. An old holder for miniature tin-types.
Found this at the dump, some 10 years ago or so. I was throwing away old sheetrock and happened to notice a cardboard box with magazines. This was in it, can you believe it? The only coin missing was the clad dime, which I added, and swapped out a better memorial cent, all the other coins are as I found them. The walker is a legit 65.
Picked this up at my town dump today in the free pile. I think it is called a Blinko Snowman from the 1950's. The same bin had an old Santa Fe train set and some sleigh bells. Blinko is about 10" tall.
Bought this gold filled pocket watch today for $50 at a pawn shop.
It runs really well and keeps time. Seems like it was just serviced.
The exciting part is that after I got home I was looking at the chain it was attached to and it looks like solid gold! I acid tested it and it is indeed 10k solid gold . 3.2g. of 10k so $66 scrap.

@mannie gray I was blown away. I can't imagine someone just throwing this away, maybe it was a mistake, maybe whoever thought it was just another piece of junk, not junk to me.
It’s a pretty miserable day here so I skipped out to the pawn store. Not a lot but $4 for a SMS...
the dollar may have been a little too much, but I liked it.

OK, you get the "You Suck!" award today AUandAG! lol Nice, very nice, don't know why I could never run into those kind of deals!
Funny part about it was that it was the 2nd day of the sale. Got there about 1pm to boot. Had it right up front next to the check out drawer. Bunch of non silver pieces piled on top and I think that is what people were seeing. I pick up the stuff off the top and thought, boy this is overpriced at $150. Then saw the complete 12 piece place settings (6 pieces each plus serving pieces (81 total)) underneath. I didn't have the $150 in my pocket and ASKED her to hold for me while I ran home and got the funds. She did and 30 minutes later I bought.
Yes, a great deal for sure and thanks for the YOU SUCK, my 4th one in ten years!

There were no 1869 $2 notes there; the $5 Charlotte note was an excellent note, had it in his case for a while before I bought it. He priced everything high for his estimated grades.
A long time ago before computers and you had to shop coin world and Numismatic News I bought a 5th year red book at the flea market ( held at a drive in theatre) for $2 had a piece of wooden money between the pages ( that was no big deal mentioned for accuracy). I walked around the flea market a bit longer offered it to one of the regular flea market coin sellers for 5 bucks ( and I was keeping the wooden money, yahoo ! ). He said no and later I was casually looking through the Numismatic News classified ads and found a red book buyer who paid me $165 ( or something close) for that red book. Who knew that was the key red book. Not a scam he paid me.
Over the years I've "rescued" a few hundred Redbooks and Bluebooks at garage sales and flea markets, most of the time for a quarter or so each. I consider it my calling.
I've had some unbelievable luck spotting nice wall art at the thrift stores...
These were some of my finds not long before the pandemic started. I had also just sold a tiny lithograph of a polar bear for almost $300 done by a well known German artist I got for a couple bucks. Someone bought it from me on ebay and had it shipped back to Germany!
Cannon Boat etching ($1.50) still trying to figure out if this is a listed artist.
A hand colored lithograph ($3.00) by a well known American artist, John Collette (sorry for the reflection of my hanging light in the full image), he's famous for his oil well images. I contacted his wife who is still alive and she confirmed for me that this is one of his earlier images of a racing boat probably off Martha's Vinyard. She has his early plates but doesn't have this one and was excited and thankful to have seen it!
An old hand colored page from a book ($1.50) print that came out a May D&F, probably the one that was in downtown Denver in the 60's. Caught my eye because of the nice tasty wild basil in the image

I've hit a few yard sales and had some nice finds but the best find came from my town dump as usual. Saw a random box sitting next to our area where people dump decent wood scraps. I picked up a couple nice pieces of pressure treated decking to fix a couple boards on my deck when I spied this box in the corner entrance. For some strange reason it was in the wood scrap area and I almost ignored it but when I looked inside it had a bunch of flatware. I expected plated but first piece I picked up was sterling. Got about 1800 grams from the lot. The things people just toss away...
I can see why they tossed it! That's some butt ugly flatware! Maybe they were errors and released before the pattern was added!

80MM bronze $8 at flea market
That’s a nice medal. What’s the diameter?
Actually closer to 78 mm
When I was dealing old toys, the fire engine would have brought an easy $900 or so and the tanker around $1500-2000.
Found this at a local gun shop.

I found this in an antique mall booth today. Most of the coins were raw, with a few in slabs.
This was 19.95 and I probably wouldn’t have even looked if it wasn’t in the old ANACS holder. Not a big rip but was a good deal IMO.

From a flea market vendor I picked up some nice coins; a Pan Pac that graded high:

Also a tough note, guess which one:
I agree! Those wooden frames are crazy expensive!
Well it’s been a while. Nobody is really doing the flea market thing yet. Both the weather and the virus are working hard against it.
I did manage to pick up a handful of half dimes from my local pawn today.
I’ll take the 1834 with a hole like that for $3.

Today I thought I’d sell at the flea Mkt. Common Morgan and peace dollars are going for 17-20. Sold 9 or 10 that way.
Also happened across another seller who had a sheet of 20 common coal scrip pieces for $2 each. I’ll do that all day long.

Not a lot of good finds this year so far. Got out today and found a fella with about two rolls of peace Dollars for $20 each. I picked the best two.

$$$$$. Great find this weekend at an estate sale for 50 cents. So glad flea markets and estate sales are starting back up.
The pinback is a real winner with HA showing most in the 400+ range. The medal has a smaller bust than all others I can find.

Yesterday’s find, $about $40 for the lot. Not coins but will prefect my coins

Newcomb 5 as well
