An Unusual Find

I found this double headed magician’s half dollar while roll hunting several months ago. Pretty well made. I suppose it would be useless for its intended purposes now that it’s a toner. Yes, there was a fleeting moment when I hoped that this could somehow be a mint made product, but it only took one drop on the counter for the telltale thud to dash such hopes.

Nice find....What is the thickness? And can you see a seam on the edge? Cheers, RickO

Precision lathe work. Lot of effort to create.

Look above the I and B. You can see the donor coin has been cut to accommodate the new obverse portrait.

I found a 1986/1987 Washington Quarter in change many years ago. If someone is looking to pull off a magicians trick or dup someone in a coin toss then at least use the same date on both sides! At least whoever created yours had the intelligence to use the same date. Yours also looks to be done much better than mine.

@bolivarshagnasty....Thanks, I see it now.... Just assumed it was a pairing....Cheers, RickO

The quarter above is designed correctly, because the illusion is what was behind the design.

In my images below, forgot I had these in my desk, each piece is designed to tell a story and complete an illusion (magic trick). The old school magicians intentionally misaligned the orientation of the obverse and reverse so as to NOT allow the props to be misrepresented as a error coin. They lathed these by hand. I flipped each piece 180°
The sleeve is used to separate the Kennedy top form the piece with both coins represented.

I had one given to me many years ago from the company that I worked for. It wasn't a magician coin but a promotional coin made for companies to use as they desired. In my case it was a "Heads Up" promotion since there were heads on both sides. My grandson has it now.

That's pretty cool! I thought it was cool this 2 headed quarter I found a while back. They used a P & D to put it together.

A couple months ago I found a "shell" like the one pictured above by isaiah58, made fron the reverse of a Lincoln cent. Wish I had found the "insert" also. They are a neat find.

I found a double headed Jefferson Nickel in a roll years ago. It had a 1964, so I turned it over to see if it had a mint-mark, instead I found a 1992.

On your close up picture. Is that an airplane etched on the obverse between the I and B of Liberty?

I’d never noticed that, but I don’t think so. I’ll take a look with a loupe tomorrow to see if it’s anything more that some stray marks.
