This is the coolest door I’ve seen B)
.
I was searching online for a fire door for my customers home and ran across this.
Walk in vault door. 36” wide x 80” tall. Maybe I’m behind times but last time I had to do something like this
I had to custom order it. Fireproof starting $6k

That would be great until someone shut the door and propped a chair against the handle while you were inside.

Another issue that I have with that design is that someone could drop down through the ceiling from the attic or kick through the drywall in an adjoining room unless, the walls and ceiling were reinforced with steel plate... of course that's not mentioned in the video.

    That is very cool!

As long as all the walls are filled cinder block. I wonder how many people invest in something like that to come home and find a hole punched through the sheetrock!

It was always a dream of mine to have a "secret room" with a door like that.

steel plate is just the beginning. Reinforced concrete goes a long way too

And if it's on the second floor you'd have to have a lot of reinforcement in load bearing walls under it. By the time you're done all the construction workers and all their friends will know you have this crazy safe room!

Was walking the dog in adjacent neighborhood and checked out a new foundation going in. Definitely a concrete safe room going in. Probably pretty standard request now days.

Wow, 2 weeks? that is the same answer I get whether 3 days or 3 months.

If you have to worry about safes it is probably time to start downsizing your collection in a big way.

If done properly, a safe room (with all the amenities) is great - but expensive. Professional, layered security, can be very effective, along with planning and training. Much depends on individual needs - i.e. the size/value of possessions, need for security (profession - politics, entertainment etc.). Security is not a 'one size fits all' endeavor. For some, basic layers are sufficient, for others, a professional consultant/firm should be enlisted. Cheers, RickO

Thanks for all you replies. I should have made myself clearer. It was meant as a general
light hearted, contractor thread. I was simply surprised that fire rated vault/panic room doors are pre made now.
The last one I did for a customer was years ago and had to have it custom made. I’m doing a panic room now for a customer in his house remodel and was relieved I can go online and simply order a pre made one....... :)
Still very good points brought up in the thread

I had a Fort Knox vault door on a vault at one time.

..The lady standing there designed that vault door for the Smithsonian.
She let me grab this pic off her phone and told me that the door, as expensive as it was, was only a 'for show' door.

My ex boss, bought a vault door from one of the imploded casinos here in Vegas. He had a safe room built specifically for that door. I gave him a silver dollar to put in it when it was completed.

It was really ornate and cool looking, about 4' wide and 8' tall.

Well, since its back to being light hearted. This started out as his master closet. Now it's going to be a safe room.
But........you didn't hear it from me :p Also, you didn't hear from me that there are some secret closet panels that actually open like a door into another room.....
btw, little did bit. clothes rods are led lights with occupancy sensors
Those are drawers below with no hardware. they are soft pull and push drawer glides.
