What are some Coin Truths that collectors seem to forget?

A single example for me: If a seasoned dealer or collector is selling a coin for what you perceive as too low a price, take a second look at the coin.

Stretching for a coin today, wont always guarantee somebody else will stretch for it in the future when you sell it.

    Agree.
Used to be if you stretched a little, you just needed to hold it for a while and the market would come to you eventually.

    Not the case anymore.

If it's too good to be true it probably is!

It depends - I've had cherrypicks that I thought were too good to be true, but they weren't. ;) Even a seasoned dealer can't check a large inventory for all die varieties.

Mutual respect between collectors and even with dealers. You just might learn something

Again, it depends. Good advice for a beginner, but the more you know, the more bargains there are to be had!

**Edit: ** "Good coin" can mean a lot of things - a valuable coin, a marketable coin, an attractive coin, a coin that you enjoy, etc. Maybe you bought a beautiful MS67 common date/common grade coin for your set, and it was cheap - more power to you!

    Also beware of overpriced coins!

Coins should not be considered a great investment on a short term basis. Beyond that is debatable.

Is there a common theme with those mot having a good time?

This has a nice ring to it, but never is putting it too strongly, IMO. I could agree with rarely. :)

Here are a few that resonate with me:

-Find your optimal grade and don't chase insert numbers.

-There are few coins that you'll regret purchasing but many more that you'll regret NOT purchasing.

-Stay FOCUSED (unless you're a Type Set collector)! LOL But, even then, you must have a PLAN.

Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

Never be worried about sending that problem coin down the road with a loss. You are better off without it..

AND.... Look at what isn't popular right now, learn about those coins and buy the great ones. You will not be sorry..
