I'm going to change my picture. How did you pick yours.

I want one that stands out so I can find it easily like the bright red used for the banned sign or a closed discussion. How did you pick your picture? Is it the same as you started with or have you changed it? If you changed it, did you do it more than once? There are a few here I really like but I don't think I'd make any friends if I copied one of them.

Don't ask me. I'm a kudu.
I joined the PCGS boards back in the 1990s and at that time there was no option for avatar (icon) images. We just had typed out names. The first version of the boards that allowed these images was in February, 2001 and all of us who were on the previous board had to re-register with our old user names (or pick out a new user name) and our post counts, post history and everything else was wiped out and not archived.
This February, 2001 version of the boards had about two dozen images in an image bank that folks could use for their avatars. They included a bent tree, generic people, someone wearing a bag over his head, a bunch of other things and my green demon. If I recall correctly, I was the only person to choose the green demon avatar, which wasn't so difficult to imagine since we only had about 50-100 people total on the boards.
I've used the green demon that came with that February, 2001 roll-out ever since and had to manually add it to later versions of the boards that didn't support those graphics.

Favorite pet.

Favorite baseball player.
One that I took. 🙂
Coin that you found or purchased.
I just retired the Martini Glass yesterday after 18 years of use. I replaced it with one of my 1734 George II crowns graded and imaged by PCGS. I am likely going rotate in and out images of coins imaged by our hosts. That is a terrific service they provide.
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
Easy, I looked in the mirror.
I use pics of my kid playing basketball. It's not hard to change them
I wanted a coin that had a long story to tell, traveled miles, and had been handled by many. It's kind of an American Icon.
My experience was the same as @TomB....Actually, when the forum was changed, it was Tom that told me in a message....at that time, I did not have an avatar....and I wanted something unique...another forum member helped me to get this one, and I have had it ever since then...and no intention of changing it. Cheers, RickO
Oh, I found mine among my late mom's gaming tokens. It's closed down and worthless, an appropriate metaphor...
I change mine frequently. Normally I’ll use a picture I took. For years I have enjoyed wildlife photography. So it’s whatever strikes me at the moment.
I woke up one day and took this photo , lookin"out my back door. I used Yogi Bear's image , initially. Changed a few times. I like nature and natural; with life and coins.

Mine is my favorite childhood lego set, which I recently "restored" and put on display. I like this one but probably not permanent. I had a bird before I think.
Instagram
Mine is a screen grab from the video for 'Under Pressure' by Queen and David Bowie, a song I've always loved. I remember seeing a cracked Morgan in the video when it was in heavy rotation on MTV back in the early 80's (yes, they actually used to show music videos 24/7) and as a young numismatist, thought it was cool that it was there. I was watching it several years ago and thought 'that would make a great avatar'. It's only shown for a split second- if you blink you'll miss it:
I changed mine once - then changed it back.
Can you change your icon anytime now, or do you still have to wait for "icon upload day"?

This murder hornet really really wants to be my new picture.
I just decided to change mine to this one.

Anytime you want.
The Chain Cent is one of my favorite coins.
But if you change all the time, your post will be hard to find. Since I've been here, there are some members I wish I could follow like I do on other forums. Now I look for their posts in each discussion. Being new, I won't name them. But if they change their image...
I guess we all have our favorites so... If any one wants to go out on a limb and be brave, who's posts do you enjoy since you have been a member?
I'f I need help getting something I like I hope someone will send me one. Once I decide, I think I'll have a contest. Did the person who helped you send an image in the PM?
I'm going to try to copy and past the hornet here in this post. If it works than members can just post an image in my contest that I can copy for my photo. Here goes a test:
IT WORKED! Look for my contest. I need to find a worthwhile prize so lots of members will try. Maybe even a bunch of second place prizes but postage will get expensive.
That is some ship. I had no idea a lego set could do that. Will you post a big detailed image for us?
That is a great image! I promise not to steal it. LOL.
I sent you a suggestion in a message.....Good luck...Cheers, RickO
Hold on every one. Ricko just sent me a great image in a PM. I love it!
Please don't send any images. YET. I'm going to have a contest for sure. There will be runner up prizes. Please hold your pictures for the contest.
@ricko sent a photo?
Strange times indeed.
I picked my favorite coin.
@BryceM....
It was a copy and paste...but, I do post photo's occasionally...just not of the quality we usually see here...Cheers, RickO
one of the coins from my collection a 1944d US/Philippine silver 10 centavo , which i thought was a good avatar since i'm married to a Filipina i thought it would be a good choice

I guess I never thought of it that way. I’ve been on message forums for decades now and never paid much attention to avatars except to note ones I like or not. I don’t generally change mine but every several months, though.
I’ve technically been a member twice. I was on back in the mid 2000s as nwcs and then moved on to other hobbies until I rejoined last fall. A lot of the people I enjoyed back then aren’t here now for one reason or another. I don’t think I have particular favorite posters but I do enjoy reading opinions from people like MFeld, TomB, ricko, Insider2 while he was here, and others. I don’t always agree with their opinions but I enjoyed reading them. And, heck, I doubt they always agree with my opinions...
Great idea, just did it. I chose a 1753 reale that I dug up locally. Have a good day. Peace Roy

Thanks. So far he is one I would have mentioned if I was a long time member. I just typed MFeld into the search. Looks like I'll have a lot of reading to do. It is probably a good idea to look up all the 5 star member posts for quick learning.
Where do you live? Near a beach or historical place. I'll bring a shovel and keep it a secret...LOL.
When I joined, you could pick a picture from a large group provided (late 2007)
I chose a type 3 gold dollar and later discovered it was liefgold’s I hope I didn’t butcher his name

I choose something in my collection, which stands out in small icon.
On 9-11, virtually everyone changed their picture to the American flag. It wasn't planned, it just happened. Anyway, I have kept the flag ever since.
Just a coin I have and a type that I like so I used it.
Collector, occasional seller
Over the years, I am not sure my posts have been read or have ever resinated with collectors here. So I doubt that the martini glass had an impact in terms of being a recognizable icon that made a difference. I write to share my numismatic and historical perspectives, inclusive of opinions as to grading or what I think in general, and that is what matters. So whether it is harder to find is less of a concern.
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
Mine is an actual token jdimmick from 1850's Detroit Michigan general store my great/great uncle ran.
I always immediately recognized the martini glass and knew it was you.

My favorite Walking Lib half in my collection. My photo's are hit & miss on quality but this one turned out very nice to my eyes!

Found the avatar image online but mine is identical. The set is from the early 90's.

Just an image of a coin in my collection. Thanks for planting the seed of making a change. I've had the Fugio for a long time, but like old copper so....It's not everyday we're gonna be the same way....

wow that fell flat, removed for maintenance , and a drink
Like this one - kept it now 10 years previously had a generic one from the few options our hosts had 20 years ago.
Mine was originally the CDC biohazard sign, since I do a lot of work with human pathogens. However, I changed it to a discrete (no faces) picture of me and my wife in Zebra Canyon, a slot canyon in the Escalante region of southern Utah.

I got mine from an advertising cover from the Pan-American Exposition World's Fair held in Buffalo, NY in 1901.

Did 6 years in the Corps so the EGA was an easy one for me.
One of my favorite coins in my collection. And probably the best coin photo I have ever taken! Most are pretty cruddy...

It picked me and haunted me at the same time.
I've been a dog lover since the day I was born.
I'm 61, but it's strange or maybe I should say unfortunate, that I've only been a dog owner twice.

The new forum software conveniently came with a custom icon image for me. It was a headshot of a young Swampboy. I added the grey hair and Voila
Previously I had a $2 1/2 Indian that meant a lot to me as my avatar.
FWIW don't feel pressured to make a long term commitment.
Have fun with it!
