I'm going to change my picture. How did you pick yours.

I want one that stands out so I can find it easily like the bright red used for the banned sign or a closed discussion. How did you pick your picture? Is it the same as you started with or have you changed it? If you changed it, did you do it more than once? There are a few here I really like but I don't think I'd make any friends if I copied one of them.

I just retired the Martini Glass yesterday after 18 years of use. I replaced it with one of my 1734 George II crowns graded and imaged by PCGS. I am likely going rotate in and out images of coins imaged by our hosts. That is a terrific service they provide.

I wanted a coin that had a long story to tell, traveled miles, and had been handled by many. It's kind of an American Icon.

Oh, I found mine among my late mom's gaming tokens. It's closed down and worthless, an appropriate metaphor...

I change mine frequently. Normally I’ll use a picture I took. For years I have enjoyed wildlife photography. So it’s whatever strikes me at the moment.

Mine is my favorite childhood lego set, which I recently "restored" and put on display. I like this one but probably not permanent. I had a bird before I think.

Mine is a screen grab from the video for 'Under Pressure' by Queen and David Bowie, a song I've always loved. I remember seeing a cracked Morgan in the video when it was in heavy rotation on MTV back in the early 80's (yes, they actually used to show music videos 24/7) and as a young numismatist, thought it was cool that it was there. I was watching it several years ago and thought 'that would make a great avatar'. It's only shown for a split second- if you blink you'll miss it:

The Chain Cent is one of my favorite coins.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

But if you change all the time, your post will be hard to find. Since I've been here, there are some members I wish I could follow like I do on other forums. Now I look for their posts in each discussion. Being new, I won't name them. But if they change their image...
I guess we all have our favorites so... If any one wants to go out on a limb and be brave, who's posts do you enjoy since you have been a member?

My experience was the same as @TomB....Actually, when the forum was changed, it was Tom that told me in a message....at that time, I did not have an avatar....and I wanted something unique...another forum member helped me to get this one, and I have had it ever since then...and no intention of changing it. Cheers, RickO

I'f I need help getting something I like I hope someone will send me one. Once I decide, I think I'll have a contest. Did the person who helped you send an image in the PM?

I'm going to try to copy and past the hornet here in this post. If it works than members can just post an image in my contest that I can copy for my photo. Here goes a test:

IT WORKED! Look for my contest. I need to find a worthwhile prize so lots of members will try. Maybe even a bunch of second place prizes but postage will get expensive.

That is some ship. I had no idea a lego set could do that. Will you post a big detailed image for us?

Hold on every one. Ricko just sent me a great image in a PM. I love it!

Please don't send any images. YET. I'm going to have a contest for sure. There will be runner up prizes. Please hold your pictures for the contest.

I guess I never thought of it that way. I’ve been on message forums for decades now and never paid much attention to avatars except to note ones I like or not. I don’t generally change mine but every several months, though.

I’ve technically been a member twice. I was on back in the mid 2000s as nwcs and then moved on to other hobbies until I rejoined last fall. A lot of the people I enjoyed back then aren’t here now for one reason or another. I don’t think I have particular favorite posters but I do enjoy reading opinions from people like MFeld, TomB, ricko, Insider2 while he was here, and others. I don’t always agree with their opinions but I enjoyed reading them. And, heck, I doubt they always agree with my opinions...

Over the years, I am not sure my posts have been read or have ever resinated with collectors here. So I doubt that the martini glass had an impact in terms of being a recognizable icon that made a difference. I write to share my numismatic and historical perspectives, inclusive of opinions as to grading or what I think in general, and that is what matters. So whether it is harder to find is less of a concern.

Mine was originally the CDC biohazard sign, since I do a lot of work with human pathogens. However, I changed it to a discrete (no faces) picture of me and my wife in Zebra Canyon, a slot canyon in the Escalante region of southern Utah.

I've been a dog lover since the day I was born.

I'm 61, but it's strange or maybe I should say unfortunate, that I've only been a dog owner twice.

The new forum software conveniently came with a custom icon image for me. It was a headshot of a young Swampboy. I added the grey hair and Voila

Previously I had a $2 1/2 Indian that meant a lot to me as my avatar.

FWIW don't feel pressured to make a long term commitment.
