Ebay and Paypal have suspended customer service calls

Don't know about you guys but I'm pulling all high dollar items. No sense in paying both of these clowns for protection when they aren't available to provide it.

I have never had a problem reaching ebay or paypal CS when I have had to call. I'm sure you can still dispute things thru the website channels if needed.

Even money says the service never returns — virus or not. Any takers?

  • amwldcoinamwldcoin Posts: 11,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

Prove it! I haven't had to call in a coupe of weeks...Last time I did I was speaking to someone from their home(ebay + paypal). This was actually for a good reason...buyer cancelled an order(said wasn't authorized) and then changed his mind. I wanted to make sure I was covered since Paypal sent me an email telling me not to ship.

been waiting three days for an email reply from ebay. Normally you can work your way to a page with a link that says "call us" with a code to enter when you make the call. That message no longer appears on their pages, only "email us" link.

Just imagine how bombarded they are going to be when they do start taking calls. LOL

Today, three attempts with PP. Used the dreaded "unauthorized charge" and "agent" to get their voice system to transfer me to a drone. All three times led to a "customer service temporarily closed."

I've always leaned toward Paypal for resolution because they hold the money. For 12 years they've always provided prompt, conclusive telephone support that has involved tens of thousand of $ over the years, ALWAYS protecting my money.

Not only am I currently concerned about not having live telephone support available, but it makes me wonder how much more active and successful the scammers will be without the watchdog just a call away. My high dollar sales are far from my livelihood, best to just shut them down for a while until my insurance agents start answering the phone again.

Both parties should have notified account holders of the very limited resources currently available and what, if any options are available. No question they didn't want to scare away business. I'm disappointed they continue to take the fees but fail to provide protective support.

something fishy is going on. last week someone made an offer on one of my items and I accepted making them the winner,
they never paid & lied to ebay about circumstances and ebay just canceled the sale in there favor never hearing my side pf the story.

They haven't suspended any buyer or seller protections. So what if it were to take a little longer to get through to them? I only contact them about once per year anyway.

Strange... they must have a bullpen type setup that, due to the virus, they have dispersed. Still, they should be able to work from home... with their technology it would be simple to set up. Cheers, RickO

because claims work on an automatic timeline without live input. They could easily side with a buyer, tell you to make the refund, hit your bank account when you fail to make the refund all before you get a chance to make your case to a real person.

Well, I tried three times different approaches including "fraudulent charge" and "hijacked account" and could not get to a real person. Give it a try and let us know if it's just something wrong with my telephone.

Customer service has suffered significantly from the move towards working at home. Both large banks that I deal with aren't able to provide adequate service. 90% of my employees are working from home, with a decline in service, which is very frustrating. In our case, technology just isn't sufficient to provide adequate connectivity in all cases, so we encourage emails and internet transaction resolution. We are investing daily in equipment to resolve this, as I imagine other organizations are - largely to prepare better for the next disaster. I am a bit surprised that these high-tech guys apparently aren't doing better, probably due to a huge spike in volume. Imagine trying to recruit, evaluate, and train customer service people in this environment, something we're dealing with as well.

Good customer service notifies the customer of any changes in service. Both ebay and PP failed to notify me that they would not be at the other end of a phone call. When you need ebay or PP these phone calls are quite important.

The one thing I've always noticed was I'm connected immediately because I have funds in my Paypal account. I always leave a buffer in case of a return.

Just to verify you do in fact have a magic phone, give it another try.

Walmart has adopted a NO REFUND-NO RETURN policy as I discovered yesterday.

BECAUSE OF THE VIIIIRRRRUUUUSSSSS as I was informed. :#:#

Perhaps suspending CS and putting everyone "on their own" could increase their profits and keep them in business.
Who need customer service if none is provided? :o

    Far fetched? .... Perhaps.

I seriously doubt that PayPal is going to rule against a seller without giving him/her due process. These are extraordinary times, and the company has to be aware that some fraudsters will be attempting to exploit that. But if @derryb (or anyone else) doesn't feel comfortable selling big ticket items in the current environment, it's really nobody's business but his.
