Now don't get all crazy about politics. Try to contain yourselves......

These are being sold in 3rd party slabs but - in the title - the seller claims "in PCGS Slab". A complete lie undermining the integrity of our hobby. It looks like he has 14 listings of this nature and at least one other questionable listing.

I can't see this one going anywhere but downhill.

Hopefully our members here will be big about it and see it for what it is. It's not right that he's using the PCGS name. It's just another chip away at all the efforts made to make sure PCGS slabs are best and secure.

Besides outright dishonesty, it also manipulates PCGS searches which is how I stumbled on it.

I see that a lot on eBay....even for "raw" coins (although technically the round you are referencing is raw though in a slab-like holder).
I agree it is an annoyance and likely a shady step by dishonest sellers.

Looks like a Coin World holder, you can see the logo in the lower left. Reported for word spamming.

    Reported under "Trademark infringement"

Although he'll probably just change the description to "PCGS style holder" or "PCGS sized holder"

Have you considered just contacting him to explain to him those are Coinworld slabs not PCGS slabs. This is hardly a big deal.

Actually it is a big deal. I'm sure PCGS's legal department would agree. Misrepresentation of the slab is as bad as a counterfeit coin. It's not ok on any level to say something is in a PCGS slab when it is not. Do you really believe he would change 14 of his auctions on my say-so? I don't think so. He knows what he's doing.

Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't. You'd be surprised how often people just search something and think that PCGS is a generic term for a slab rather than a specific trademark.

I actually emailed someone once and mentioned this to him and he removed the "PCGS" part. Turns out he had copied someone else's listing and left the PCGS in there because he thought it was part of the generic description.

Personally, I always start with a friendly email to the seller and then see what they say.

It looks like he's doing a drop ship sale. He's got a professional advertising circular which indicates "PCGS size slab" on it. That is probably all he was trying to say in the listing.

I've sent him a friendly email.

The changes you mentioned would still amount to a violation of EBay’s rule against “keyword spamming”.

Sure looks like they do. Several TPGS's have done this with rolls of Silver Eagles.

What's special about that case. It is just a Pelican 1500 case that some one just cut slots into that fit slabs. I have thrown many in the dumpster.

    A Pelican 1500 is >$100 case.
This is a knock-off that probably isn't as well constructed but only $24

Also...Which dumpster did you throw them in...Asking for a friend :)

Just asking if you have seen the listings that state that the coin(s) are graded by PCGS and show a partial tv of the coin cert# and yet the actual coin is a raw coin. how about the misspelled listings of PPCG or PPGS which also are raw coins. If you do not actually research a listing or are naïve you can bid on these coins. I put these dealers into my follow seller list with the note that they are dishonest sellers which need to be avoided and to never buy from. my list grows. I have seen so many descriptions that this is a super rare coin with only a few in this grade, when you actually check the PCGS pop report, there are 5K coins in this grade with 6k in a higher pop. there are sellers on EBAY that list two coins in a bundle bid at say $600.00 in ms69. the very next listing by this seller is the same 2 coins and grade at $450.00 and then the third listing by the same seller is the two same graded coins at individual prices of $150.00 each. What a great deal at buying these two coins together at a total price of $300.00. when you do the research of the coins, PCGS list the value of the coins at $40.00 each. Their feedback rating is usually at the 99+%, a top seller. EBAY just does not care. So scrutinize all listings that you are interested in other wise you will get burned. DISHONEST SELLERS ARE VERY ABUNDANT on this site.
