Lexington in an old box

There is an Ebay offer for this Lexington half dollar in a nice old original box.
The seller wants about $ 275,-- for this piece. But I´d think this price for this common coin is too high, isn´t it?
What do you think would be a fair offer for this Lexington half dollar? Maybe I can make him a counteroffer.

The Lexington looks nice, and the box seems to be in good shape. The coin on it's own is worth about $90. I don't think the box is worth $185.

The half is circulated and the box is super-common vs. other commem material. It would be worth far, far less than $275 to me.

$275 is way out of line, these aren't exactly rare or scarce for that matter.
The coin is circulated and rarely are the coins and boxes original to each other. If I couldn't buy both for around $100, I'd pass. These are far too common to grab the first one you see. Much nicer ones out there.

The Lexington box is one of the most common of all of the “old commemorative“ packaging. The prices for it have gone up and down for years. I have been out of the market for years, but in my day, the range has been a low of $25 and a high of $100 when thins were “crazy.” There are also fake boxes to concern you.
With the prices for commemorative coins depressed, this is way over priced. I would pass. I also think the the images of the Minute Man and the Lexington bell tower are very faded. This is not a “super box.”
And as others have said the box is NOT uncommon vs. other early commem issues. They are often available. I wouldn’t exceed around 100, maybe 125 if I had a few Guinness in me.

When eBay "Buy it now" offers are stupidly high your best move would be to ignore them completely.

Those boxes have also been heavily counterfeited over the years.
Hence when I have seen a nice Lexington over the course of the last 35 years I always try to negotiate a lower price without the box.
