Modern shield half cent damage?

Just found this in my washing machine. I did not notice it in my change beforehand and it did not go in the dryer.
The lines on the very shiny zinc side look sort of like it was cut a hundred different directions and then spun around the middle. But the scratches are not in edge and some inner places where they would be with a hacksaw for example, or a grinder.
I don't know of a saw that thin that could cut this so smooth and even in thickness. The copper part fused in the center looks like it broke off. Edges on the shield side are rounded.
Did someone actually have a way to cut this in half? Or did it separate on its own? Gives post mint damage new meaning. Maybe someone wanted to double their money?
A really strange find. Any ideas?

You answered your own question: it was stuck in a washing machine.
The wash machine I have does not have an agitator, it just sprays high pressure water. I don't see how one side would do this. I must have some acid in my water

I'm thinking it's a dryer cent.
"The wash machine I have does not have an agitator"
It does have a spin cycle.
I have had other coins including Lincolns in the washer, and I get shiny, clean, virus free change when I take it out, not this...
Maybe it was given to me that way and someone else took it to the cleaners.

Edge photo compared to a regular cent may help.
See if this helps

Thanks, that is exactly what this is. I knew it was damage of course, and not an error, but I never saw one like that in hand before.
Edited to say, I just looked carefully in the washer, in the space around the edge like @ErrorsOnCoins posted , and found a quarter stuck in there! My lucky day. LOL. Thanks to you both.
