Is this the ugliest $2 1/2 Indian ever?

I usually like gold with color. I've never seen one like this though... lol. Found on ebay, and still available if you want to buy it

Literally no one is in a position to answer such a question in the affirmative.😉

Yep, conserve that one
Collector, occasional seller
Pretty close but it can be fixed in no time.
That doesn't look like toning. Looks like foreign matter from whatever it was stored in. A soak in acetone could uncover a nice looking coin.

I like it....
Do you think it will straight grade?
(yea, that's a serious question)

While it might clean up just fine, for that money I'd keep looking.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Looks like some kinda funk got on there. I agree with @Perryhall it might clean up in acetone. But, I don’t want it near my collection. Could be contagious.
Once it's been properly conserved there's a chance that it will straight grade. Of course it depends on what the coin looks like under all that tar or paint or whatever that crap is.

I would be dipping that coin so fast.....Where is the barf emoji when needed?? The good news is, it will clean up nicely - true, there could be hidden issues... but I would definitely clean it up. Cheers, RickO
This series has been very heavily counterfeited so there's a chance it isn't even real.

PCGS could do a "barf-box-of-20" registry set.
This emoji could be on your special label if you're the highest rated set.

I like crusty old gold, but not that one.
can you get mold on gold?
I agree that it COULD clean up to be a decent coin. But I would not risk the price they are asking. The obverse has what looks like decent toning on the Indian, but all that black stuff looks like it needs to come off.
For $50 to $100 more you can get a nice certified Indian. If you are truly interested in it for the price, I would offer the seller less for this "ugly" coin.

Agree that it's not worth taking a chance on it unless it were priced near melt.

I would hesitate at below melt.
It could be contagious.
And destroy my other coins, unless you put it into quarantine, for at least 2 weeks.

No, but I understand the question.
Well it certainly has that unmessed with look.............
If it's carbon residue from a fire event, can't that chemical reaction stain the gold coin? Inquiring minds want to know. Peace Roy

I kinda like it. It speaks to me.
You know, there is a yearly contest for the worlds ugliest dog. ...
Giver her a dip and light scrub. Go gently, she will straight grade.

Good point. That coin may have been in a fire and whats under that charred debris may preclude it from being straight graded. Paying anything over melt value isn't worth taking a chance on.

Is it part of a fire sale?😊😁
MINE!
So, there really is something about this coin that really appealed to me. Say what you like, think what you like, but in the end, as long as you're happy, what difference does it make.

That seller should pay me a finders fee... lol
I wouldn't pay anymore than melt for it being a raw coin...
I hope we get an update if whoever bought it reads this.

It looks like someone accidentally threw it in the fireplace. I'd market it as crusty, dirty gold.
There is pretty gold and prettier gold. No such thing as ugly gold😉
Dip it,,,,,, strip it,,,,, and "let 'er rip it"
Colored with a black sharpie?
The original expression from the pre-slab era was "Rip it. Dip it. Flip it. Ship it." At that time, "flip it" meant to put it in a flip. Now "flip it" means to quickly resell a coin soon after you buy it.
